I found this TV commercial for Michael Jackson's Thriller and I thought it was pretty cool and historically interesting.

The "greatest hits" claim wasn't hyperbole, for once. :)

Looks like a cheap imitation of Edie Baskin's early SNL bumpers.

I wonder when that was put out? "The Girl Is Mine" came out in October 1982, the album in November, and "Billie Jean" in January 1983. One would assume if they had access to the "Billie Jean" video, they would have used part of that.

    Dr. Pepper What, me worry?

I would guess November or December 1982 for Christmas sales, and to fit the timeline you put forth.

There was, but it was available only via the Columbia House Record Club. :)

Yeah, by the early 80's there were quite a few albums available on 8-track only by getting them through the record clubs. :)

I figured Thriller would the last big title put on 8 track via the record stores. But I guess not.

Nah, by 1982 they were already pretty much obsolete. Cassettes were the preferred tape format.

Hey- can you post the program order? Is it the same sequence as the album?

The sequencing is different and unique to the 8-Track format. :) Here it is:

Track 1. Wanna Be Startin' Somethin', Billie Jean
Track 2. Baby Be Mine, Human Nature, P.Y.T (Pretty Young Thing) (Beginning)
Track 3. P.Y.T (Pretty Young Thing) (Conclusion), The Girl Is Mine (With Paul McCartney), The Lady In My Life
    Track 4. Beat It, Thriller

Oh and for those wondering, 1987's Bad got an 8-Track release too (!!!) with a unique track sequence. This was also only available via the Columbia House Record Club.

    Michael Jackson - Bad

I'd love to know how many people actually bought it.

Yeah, I am not exactly sad to see that format die. :) I can't imagine having to put up with that on a regular basis! It would drive me crazy!
