Great idea. A box set featuring all versions plus a live concert.
Regarding the third part, I heard that it was going to be called The Magic Eight Ball, but I believe the name has been changed. The Prison was released in 1974 and The Garden was released in 1994. Twenty years apart. It has been twenty years since The Garden. I believe we are due for the third part.

To me it almost sounds like the '74 version is the demo to the '90 version.

Plus you hear more of Red's playing in the song Dance Btw The Raindrops in the '90s version. It's really buried in the '74 original.

I bought a copy of The Prison on eBay to have Michael sign at the convention this weekend. I didn't realize that there was a 1977 pressing (which of course was the one that I received).

When you have him sign it, ask him if he is planning on recording the third part to The Prison anytime soon.

What's a shame is that you can buy an autographed vinyl box set from Videoranch for $100. The exact same price Nez was charging for just his signature at the Monkees convention. I paid for 2 autographs. He owes me 2 copies of The Prison now. Right?

Wow, it was only $50 back in the '90s, when I ordered mine.

I only listen to the vinyl version. I don't like it when artists "fix" their earlier works. (Zappa was notorious for doing the same thing.) The work exists in a certain time and place, so just leave it alone and do something new! Or, at least make both versions available.

I figure it's the artists body of work. They created it and if they want to go back and rework it then that's their rightful choice.

Sometimes artists are their own worst enemy. Once the work is out there before the public, it's done.

Matter of opinion I guess. I'm very happy that he remixed and remastered The Prison in 1990. I love that version.

So you are against any remaster, reissue, bonus tracks for any original release of any artist's albums?

It used to be offered as $100 sealed and if you requested he would unwrap the record and sign it.

No, of course not. But Nesmith significantly altered the album for re-release in 1990 - even adding newly recorded instrumental parts in place of previously existing ones - so it's not the original work as released in 1975. It's his prerogative to do whatever he likes, but it really should be clearly indicated on the cover so that consumers understand what they're getting.

What is the meaning or interpretation of this line from 'Marie's Theme' ...

" Hidden behind all the logic one finds without truth"

THE PRISON was released in 1974.

Yes, but it was reissued later (in 1977 I believe), and the reissue is what I was referring to.

I don't know about different mixes. I always liked the CD version. But ... I saw it done live (with Nesmith) at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco.
