Modern Family (and a question thereof)

In particular, how does Ed O'Neill's character end up with Sophia Vergara's? I looked at Wikipedia but it does not really say. OK, he is rich, did the show pose that out so crassly? Or did they come up with some ridiculous excuse? And post whatever else you like about the show; maybe I'll start watching from the start (is that possible?)

 

I know there is one episode where he sees her and her sister in a restaurant. He wants to date the sister so he passes them a note (or pie)but Gloria gets it and thinks it is for her. Her son Manny once told Jay that he thought he had no shot at marrying his mother out of all the men she was dating.

Manny says in season 2 that Gloria realized Jay was the man for her after their first fight. She finally met her match in arguing.
