Got my copies of In a Silent Way and Bitches Brew yesterday. IASW was excellent... will be spinning BB this evening, I hope.
Probably because the 2 records are housed in a box? The Dylan 45rpm Blonde on Blonde (3 records) is described the same way.
Right. I meant to ask, Why is mofi putting 2 records in a box when they typically use a gatefold? Seems like it might just be a cash grab. BoB had 3 LPs, so that's a different story.
It looks like on the Allmusic website that Nefertiti has a release date of September 25. I have it on preorder from music direct but haven't seen a release date until this one. Anyone know if this is going to truly be the release date?
Obviously nothing official as of yet, but I sure am itching to hear this and finally be able to throw my crummy red-bordered "Contemporary Jazz Masters" CD out the window.
Correct. I just got a Fedex tracking notice for my copy from Music Direct. I am looking forward to hearing it. My original copy is not in great shape anymore.
I got my notification from music direct today as well. I am pumped!!! I love Nefertiti even though it's not well thought of. Hope they get on Kind of Blue, Files, and Johnson soon.
months and months ago, they said they were waiting for the boxes to finish and that the record was already done... I did have it pre-ordered a while ago but cancelled it when I got the RSD Mono. I also have the stereo pressing too. Both are awesome quality for the price.
Not well thought of by whom? It's a great album from one of Miles's most fertile periods, and has enjoyed much critical acclaim. I consider it a better pick than Jack Johnson. I'm happy they released it.
I totally agree. I have both the Rhino reissue and MofiĀ“s 45 rpm and the latter is much better sounding.
They must be having problems with Kind of Blue, there really isn't any other reason why this has taken soooo long. Master tape perhaps?
Yeah, I agree that it's strange. You have to follow them on Facebook or subscribe to Music Direct's emails to know when it's time to order a new release, if you don't preorder everything you might want.
Nefertiti sounds amazing on my first listen through. I haven't been dissapointed with a a single mofi release on the davis catalog so far.
+1 I'm listening to it now and really enjoying it. What a great album. I just can't wrap my head around the idea that anyone who likes jazz and Miles Davis would not regard this work highly.
