Or better. I think "The Obliterati" is their best album.

And I have to add the still-amazingly-great Sonics to this thread.

The Feeling's Boy Cried Wolf album last year was something of a return to form. Not as bright and poppy as their first 2 albums, but a really enjoyable listen anyway.

    Elvis - Moody Blue (song)
The end might have been in sight, but, goddamn, the guy still had it...
(from the same final sessions, the b-side is an incredible reading of She Thinks I Still Care)

The Blue Mask and New York (and the albums that followed) are some of my absolute favorite Lou Reed albums, and both came after what could be described as a bit of a slump.

I recently saw Elton John at the Pavilion in Charlotte, NC. He was still in good voice although he could no longer hit the high notes. He took the low harmony and left the falsetto to his younger band members. His piano chops were more impressive than they ever were in the studio.

I don't mind that he sings the lower notes.

  13. Chuck Berry, Hollywood Palladium, March 22 1980. He ripped through his songs like a mofo. Could still duck walk. Sounded great! I'm out there somewhere!

When Patti Smith released Gone Again.

Didn't rate Dream of Life at all so hearing GA some 17 years after her last decent album was a real surprise....and, on the evidence of Banga, she's still got it.

McCartney was down in the mid 80s, but Press of Press To Play seemed like a classic McCartney upbeat pop/rocker, showed he still had it.

Press To Play was great. A shame it wasn't reflected in it's sales.

God, yes. There was a moment on Later With Jools, when she sang the title track, that sent a shiver through every single part of my body.

Can't find a good clip of it online, so here's a pretty good US TV performance.

Cheap Trick's self-titled 1997 album. Made me become an active fan, following the group's current activities, as opposed to seeing them as a legacy act.

    - John Fogerty's 1997 return but especially "Revival" and every tour thereafter.

Very recently - Fish. His latest album A feast of consequences (2013) was the best thing he ever did as a solo artist. Much like Elton, he's unable to sing higher notes, but the songs on this album have been well adjusted to the shortcomings of his voice.

I hate doing this, but for those who aren't in-the-know I should explain that Fish is is Marillion's former lead singer.

Everybody rags about Rush's last few albums , But when they put there minds to it they can still put together a good tune like "The Garden", makes me wish they would work with Terry Brown again
