TOTALLY psyched that I found this one....I was starting to wonder if only Columbia pressed this one: Crabby Appleton - "Crabby Appleton" Elektra EKS 74067 Delta 14666
I'm considering an original Atlantic, Monarch pressed LP of "In The Court Of The Crimson King." How's the sound quality on these? Can anyone comment?
A Monarch related question: I see there's two different label variations to Joe Cocker's 1969 "Joe Cocker!" album. The first pressing has only ONE song above the spindle hole, but I see another Monarch pressing that has TWO songs above the spindle hole. Is the second variation also from 1969, or would it be a slightly later pressing, let's say from 1970? Anyone have any idea?
Another Monarch question....when did Monarch start pressing for Elektra Records? The earliest one on Frank's list is the 1965 "The Paul Butterfield Blues Band" album. I would like to find a Elektra "Guitar Player" labeled Monarch pressing for Judy Collins' "#3" album, but I don't know if one exists. That album came out in 1963 I believe.
Well I took a chance on that Monarch "In The Court Of The Crimson King" and it sounds pretty awesome! I read that there were problems with the mastering and they had to try and correct the master tape to send to Atlantic. Sounds good to my ears. Fripp's howling guitar on "Schizoid Man" is like a siren wailing!
Matty, have you compared the Monarch to another -- say a Presswell copy? Maybe there was a point at which there was a corrected master.

Other comments: The Sonics LP dates to December, 1966. Also, there could be Elektras before 11/65, but I haven't seen any. One I'm looking for is the Baroque Beatles Book, which was released at about that same time.
Fairport Convention - 'Babbacombe' Lee (promotional copy-banded for radio play) A&M SP-4333 Δ16905 Can't find any delta numbers for a stock copy or the un-banded promos but I imagine they'd have different deltas.
I see stock copies out there of the Fairport LP that look like Monarchs, but I haven't held one in my hands. You're right that a banded promo must have a different job number.
Alright. Must ask. Which version of Saturday Night Fever is that? My guess is that it's the first version since the Monarch numbers are together and correspond with a date in November, 1977. [The first pressing featured the original studio version of "Jive Talkin'." Later copies have a live version of the song.]
