Tied between the early take of Crippled Lion and All the King's Horses on Vol. 2 (I think I also have the live Circle Sky on something else though). I haven't listened to it or Vol. 1 in ages... I should break them out soon! A good remedy for early fall blahs...
Listening to Steam Engine right now, such an underrated song from their catalogue. Was really excited to hear it at the Mike and Micky show I went to this summer
You said it brudda, I was fortunate to see it too in my favorite city, Chicago. I live in Illinois, but closer to St. Louis...
Favorite song from that show was probably Mary, Mary. Micky was so good! He really rocked the crowd. Wonderful show all in all
Trying to get a good copy of Pool It! on CD! Can’t find it locally and online it’s either expensive shipping from Europe or the condition is no good :/
I'm from Granite City. I often tell people I've seen Davy Jones more than any other celebrity. 3 times with the Monkees in St. Louis, at the Muny when he played Fagin in 'Oliver,' and the free concert he did at St. Louis Union Station in '96.
I welcome any new Monkees thread. Good idea, RedRoseSpeedway. For the Missing Links series, Vol. 2 is my favorite. My fav. track is St. Matthew, yet on some days some of the other tracks are pretty close to being tops for me. "Saginaw" is a superb runner-up in my opinion. I really like "Prithee," (Do Not Ask for Love) what a great track! - Why that one sat in the can for many years confounds me. Probably the Davy-sung version is my favorite overall. Peter's version on 33.3 is good too. Since 33.3 tracks are all somewhat out there, I have to be in the mood to hear them, since the arrangement is a bit odd compared the earlier ones (Davy and Micky). I prefer the title "Prithee" rather than the longer name for that awesome song.
I was at Davy's Union Station show, and many subsequent Monkees concerts. But I totally missed Oliver.
Missing Links, V 2 is a good one. "St. Matthew", "If I Ever Get to Saginaw Again", "Some of Shelly's Blues", "Down the Highway", the fast "I Wanna Be Free", "Prithee", "Riu Chiu"...heck, I'll even take Davy's "Changes"...I like the whole thing. Last year I noticed that this CD wouldn't play on one of my players....Backup made ASAP.
The Union Station show was my very first show. Although, I feel like it may have been a little earlier. Maybe he played there more than once. Edit: Found this list from 1995. Davy Jones Setlist at Union Station, St. Louis
My brother and I saw Ringo the same year at the Fair St. Louis. I guess Ringo was my first show since it was a month or so earlier. Our grandmother took us to both, along with taking us to the 30th Anniversary show the next year in 1996. Ringo Starr & His All Starr Band Setlist at Fair St. Louis 1995
Edited all 4 (I think) versions of Seeger's theme into a single track that starts with the most stripped down version and builds in complexity from there. With each track being so short this makes a very satisfying way to listen. Going to see Mike & FNB tonight
Not 100% sure. I believe the handmade Headquarters Sessions set. Maybe some on one of the other Deluxe 2 CD or boxed reissues too.
Agreed. ATKH could have used some better production, tho. It needed the touch of an experienced producer. The Alt of IWBF is fantastic, and I wish that had been the version used on the first album.
They put quite a few versions on the Handmade Birds, Bees, Monkees Super Deluxe. The Monkees - The Birds, The Bees & The Monkees
If you haven't looked yet, here is Prithee - Do Not Ask For Love sung by David on YouTube. I have the Davy-sung Prithee on the 3 CD Deluxe First Monkees set. At least I believe Prithee is on that set.
I had a problem with a 2CD Boyce & Hart set playing and it was still brand new. I ended up making a copy on CD-R that played fine though. Strange. The only other times that happened was a real budget label Bob Marley CD, and a 2CD Lothar & The Hand People on Acadia and similar to the Boyce & Hart one.
