  1. I love The Monkees. Right now I’ll just mention that "Porpoise Song" is my favorite psychedelic song of all time.

What a great one! I’m actually bummed they didn’t dive more into psychedelic territory

Well then again, Daily Nightly and Star Collector are pretty psychedelic, but that’s about it

Been getting back into the Monkees recently.

Just listened to their Instant Replay album for the first time recently (the 19 track bonus version) and thought it was absolutely fantastic.

So good! Probably their most underrated record. My favorite is “I Won’t Be The Same Without Her”. Also my favorite Monkees album cover

I like the album overall but it would rate SO much higher for me except i think most of the Boyce/Hart tunes are rather blah. Looking Glass is good and Teardrop City is just ok but Me Without You and Don't Listen to Linda are just awful to my ears.
Would love to have replaced them with Davy's Smile or Changes or even War Games.

Just a Game is probably the most underrated song in the monkees catalog, by the way!

Amen, brothers and sisters!!! INSTANT REPLAY has a special place in my heart too! My favorite is definitely Mike's performance of "I Won't Be The Same Without Her." Heartache and sorrow never sounded so sweet!

The entire album is full of good stuff, but has always given me a melancholy vibe. Another reason why I love this album.

"Just A Game" going into "Me Without You" is one of the most wonderful moments in the Monkees' catalog for me. The way the flute in "Just A Game" trails off into nothing and leads into the calliope that kicks off "Me Without You" ... simply out of sight!!!!

Time to listen to INSTANT REPLAY! :)

Yeah, on any given day Instant Replay is either my #3 or #4 favorite Monkees album. My favorite tracks are "Shorty Blackwell" and "You And I". Love this album!

Speaking of Shorty Blackwell, Micky wrote a few very important songs for The Monkees catalogue like Randy Scouse Git, Shorty Blackwell, and Mommy and Daddy. Was Micky arguably the second best songwriter of the group? How does he compare to David and Peter?

And it's my favorite Monkees album cover too! :righton:

Instant Replay is probably my favorite Monkees album after The Monkees and More of the Monkees. :agree:

I see. I have a really hard time ranking albums in general and The Monkees are no exception

That's how I am with the Bee Gees lol. Hard for me to rank their albums on any given day because I love every album a little differently.

I imagine as I get more into the Monkees, that will become the case for me lol. :agree:

The one I couldn't play was this...
actually it wasn't a 2CD set after all I can see now, but I got rid of it and made a separate CD-R for each album plus one single from vinyl I had. Something I also did with that Lothar set that had problems playing and which was 2 discs. I think maybe this B&H release was the first time you could get that stuff on CD.

Wow Mike seemed to have aged at least a decade last night since the last time I saw him a couple years ago. Amazed he is still out on tour with even a couple stairs seeming to be a daunting task for him now.
