Well, they could just have Micky sing Davy's songs and I think he does justice to them.

Micky does a fine job of covering Davy's lead vocals but Peter has been doing She Hangs Out, A Little Bit me and Early Morning Blues and Greens with and without the Monkees just fine.

He could also do When Love Comes Knockin', which he seems to like.

One tune I think we'll hear this time around: I'll Spend My Life with You. Practially a Micky/Peter duet.

I hope Valleri is left off the table. Cuddly Toy also seems too much of a Jones staple to cover.

I was thrilled to see Tommy James and Gene Cornish two of my favorites from that era, but they didn't really perform.

You are right-it wasn't a "Monkee" concert- it was a memorial, so I stayed for that part. But to be honest Fred, not at the fault of the people doing the event-more to the lack of biggies that should have made an appearance. It's NYC! I will also confess at the hope of seeing Nesmith make an appearance even if non-musical, but I got to see him later twice with the band and once solo.

But I was tapped out on funds-we were required to eat a dinner and have a minimum of 2 drinks, so $15 was really $50, so I couldn't make a donation, unless it was the waiters' tip. And I had to work the next day-so I wasn't going to miss the last train out as they stated it would go late into the night.

Enjoyed many parts of the BBs evening, especially Micky and Peter, but it did drag on at times.
Providing money to take care of a fairly rich guy's horses is not the most compelling charitable cause out there.
I'll support his family's ability to care for the horses by buying any more gems they unearth from the Monkees vault.

Davy wasn't as rich as some folks think, he wasn't Nesmith. It's been a struggle and a financial strain for his family to continue to properly care for his horses and I don't believe it's improper for the family to ask the fans for a little help. Royalties can only cover so much.

Yeah and it's a financial strain to keep up all my sports cars...wait a minute-I ain't got none.

I'm sure his annual royalties are still 5 times my salary. Monkee songs and albums are heard everywhere and still sell well. TV is a different story as residuals for 60s stars generally suck.

I'm very sorry we lost Davy at such a young age...but the sympathy for horse costs that probably far exceed my mortgage and living expenses is not going to compel me to give that last 10 bucks in my pocket to them over a nice waiter, who is relying on my tip to earn a living.

I too attended the Davy memorial at BB Kings in NYC, sadly or luckily I also saw Davy there 2 weeks prior at his wonderful solo show.. however the memorial was painfully long and disjointed, Peter and Micky did do 3 songs together, I'm a believer, what am I doing hanging round and You and I.. but in retrospect it was definitely heartfelt and moving at times, I recall meeting fans there from the Midwest and other points who traveled to the event.. which brings me to 2015 My theory is Peter and Micky touring Canada as the Monkees are in fact staying “above" the radar screen and not saturate the lower 48 for the 50 anniversary tour, Mike included. My only wish is they change the setlist a bit

The highlight of my evening was sitting with two wonderful ladies from Staten Island I stood in line with. One of them met Davy in the 60s. We had a nice dinner, and I left to catch the train after paying my share of course.

If the kids can't afford the horses, then sell them to someone who can care for them. Why ask others to support you? There are much more legitimate charitable causes out there that should be placed far above this "charity".

Yeah providing for someone else's horses is something I'm not going to look to do until some time after I have ensured that my kids will never have to work a day in their life, which is not something I anticipate achieving.

Continuing the metaphor, Davy is like Graham (sings the poppiest tune), Peter is like Stills (best instrumentalist) and Micky is like Crosby (best singer).

Though Peter and Crosby have the whole biggest druggie thing going for them

. They will be accompanied by a big band, “a full rock ‘n’ roll contingent” with horns, strings, an elaborate orchestra, and singers.
This quote is from Micky, a recent article about their show this coming weekend..
    Can someone say "shorty blackwell"..!

Flimsy argument. If you can't afford horses, don't have them. Not fair on the horses.
Having said that, if you want to re-mortgage YOUR house to pay for these horses, don't let me stop you.
Just don't make out that it is some sort of charitable organisation.

Here's information on the Davy Jones Equine Memorial Fund from their website. The cause of rescuing horses is a good one and no one is being forced to contribute. It's a personal choice and decision if one wants to give or not.

Hang in there Mark!.. I would bet my last dollar that Mike will be there in 2016 for a full blown Monkees mania event.

I think the acoustic set looks great! Here's the only clip from last night I've found - too bad there's off-key help from the audience lol. Looks like a good show. I wish they were doing more:

That's a step down from their last few tours. Rather lifeless. Hopefully the rest of the show was better.

The acoustic set seems like the real draw here. When I first heard that the 2012 shows were to draw heavily on "Headquarters," I had hoped for a version of "I'll Spend My Life With You" including Michael on the pedal steel. Bit of a downer for a live show, but it'd be interesting to see Micky and Peter tackle "Mr. Webster," too.

From Peter's Facebook page, interesting. I'd see the show for sure if it comes near me:

I’m sitting in my hotel room after tonight’s show, mulling over the evening’s event. Tonight, for the first time, Micky and I went on stage, here at the Fantasy Springs hotel and casino, just the two of us, as the Monkees.

Before virtually every show the Monkees ever did, starting with the very first show we did in Hawaii in 1967, the four of us, or three of us, had a little huddle and said, “hober reeber sober sokin’,” or words to that effect, as a way of affirming we were on a team. Tonight Micky and I looked at each other, and, since you can’t have a huddle with two people, we had a hug, and said “hober reeber…” etc. Having a hug instead of a huddle was a bit strange, but Michael didn’t want to do any more touring, and we thought there might be demand for the Monkees anyway, and so, nervous and cautious, Micky and I went out, just the two of us, as the Monkees.

Well, I guess we needn’t have worried. The show went very well, particularly for a first show in a new format. Micky sang as well as he ever has, and I sang maybe better than I ever have. We sang a few of Mike’s songs, and of course, no Monkees concert would be complete without Daydream Believer, which Micky and I sang in unison, mostly, so Davy was represented as well. Micky and I also sat down with acoustic guitars and sang some songs in a more relaxed way than usual. Later, Micky sang his version of “Sugar, Sugar,” which he’d recorded on his solo CD, “Memories,” and I sang “Even White Boys Get the Blues,” which, as you know, I’ve done with Shoe Suede Blues for years. These last two were by way of each of us having a solo spot, as we used to do in Monkee concerts of old.

The audience, apparently about 1500 strong, were enthusiastic, and we got the standing ovation we always hope for. I felt that a great time was had by all, certainly myself and Micky. I surprised myself by being pretty comfortable up there, and I think it came through in my performance.

I surely hope you get to see the show. We’ve got a show in Edmonton, Alberta, and two near Toronto, Ontario, on April 22nd and 24th and 25th. We are looking at some dates in the northeast in September followed by a trip to the UK, and even though nothing is solidly scheduled just yet, we’re going to be there for sure. So you better get ready, we may be coming to your town…to quote a song. Heheheh

Thanks, Team, as always, for your fabulous affection and help. I love you all. Peter
