OK: I have A-B'd my recently acquired CDN. mono of this LP, with my UK mono. In my mind, there is no question. The UK is a fold-down, the CDN. is a real mono mix. How to tell? I must admit that I have always found this question a tough one, but, thanks to our guru, SH, and his comments on the "MONO FOLD DOWN" thread, I believe I was able to come to the correct conclusion. Quite simply, the UK mono LP sounds as if the music is coming out of my 2 speaker cabinets. There is no center at all. And the volume is low. There is a dull, lifeless quality to it. The CDN., on the other hand, is loud, dynamic and the sound is centered--sounding like the music is not merely coming out of the 2 speakers, but from in between. It sounds amazing. Interestingly, my CDN. mono "Pisces" LP does not sound very good. I have recently acquired a US mono "Pisces" LP and I will A-B those soon and post. Comments, questions, please.
