For those with 2M carts, I would suppose Ortofon has a separate mono stylus I could snap in?

No, sorry but monaural is not the stylus you choose, it's the cartridge!

The For Sale section doesn't show until you have 50 posts (I think). Then you can read it but you can't post there until you have 100 posts (I think).

 

It's not "bad" and you won't hurt anything. You'll get mono sound, but the stereo sound might not be best balanced/mixed for playback in mono. It's something to play with or check with a stereo record. On some occasions it could sound better, in a way.
