Monterey Pop on Region B BD?

Am I right to think that only Criterion has so far released the complete film on BD? As this is Region A locked, there doesn't seem to be any alternative for non-US customers who want this film on BD. I really don't want to have to buy a DVD in 2017 especially when "The Complete" Criterion package contains "Jimi Plays Monterey" which I already own on DVD anyway.

A new 4K restoration is on its way, so I'd hang fire for now, if I were you:

Whether or not Criterion will release this in region B I cannot say, but there is a definite possibility. Otherwise, go region-free.

Thanks! That's interesting. Holding fire seems the best course of action for now. It seems Pennebaker's films get reissued on disc as "approved by director" exclusively through Criterion these days so I live in hope that Criterion will release a Region B at some point. It doesn't appear as though any other company has picked up the rights to distribute it overseas and given the 50th Anniversary it seems an opportune moment to do just that.

So far, Criterion has yet to release a title at the same time in regions A and B, so you may have to wait and see. They never reveal their intentions, though, which can be frustrating for some. I refuse to play that game. If I want a new region A release badly enough, I pre-order it, usually from WowHD.

For those of us who already own the current edition, hope Criterion can procure more unreleased concert film for the bonus features. Particularly, I'd like to see the Grateful Dead and Moby Grape footage if they can get it.

Yes indeed! A longer cut and more bonus videos would be great

I'd love to see the Moby Grape footage, too.

Does the Dead footage exist? I thought I recalled in the foggy recesses of my brain that they forced the lens caps to be place on the cameras, allowing only audio. Or was that at Woodstock?

I didn't realize Moby Grape played at Monterey.

What's a 4K release going to show? No 2K? Yep I want to see all the grain. I'd buy it again if they improve the sound and include more footage.

I think they were the very first act on stage. Audio here:

Yes, it exists! I had always heard that they refused to be filmed as well. Yet:

I have the old version and it's great. Only thing that would made me upgrade is if they done more work on the bonus material. I'm not sure but I remember both video and sound being inferior to the movie

Yes, I posted that exact information elsewhere, in other threads that this applied to.

We’re going to see an awful lot of Criterion threads bumped, if we bump each and every one in order to advertise this sale.

Well, you can relax, none of them were Criterion threads.

I’m perfectly relaxed. In fact, I’m horizontal.

Can’t say I’ve noticed any non-Criterion threads being bumped to advertise this Criterion sale. Makes even less sense, if true, but if it makes you happy crack on.

Watching the 2017 Blu ray, and upgrade isn't a big enough word ( from the DVD set ).
