HUMPHREY BOGART ... simply the best
"The Petrified Forest" early Warner Bros. test photo
When avid collectors speak of rare ephemera, we generally refer to autographs,
concert posters, and programs. While I have been looking out for a gem Bogie
signed piece, he is nearly as high priced as a Lennon or Monroe and I have not
moved on it yet. When I acquired this vintage 1936 Broadway NYC Playbill original
program for "The Petrified Forest" I nearly fell out.
This was Bogies big break as the outlaw Duke Mante.
Legendary screen star Leslie Howard was the headlining star.
They quickly became good friends, while the play became a huge
success. When Warner Bros, bought the rights and wanted to make
the movie, they did not want Bogart. Leslie Howard outright refused
to sign the contract as lead without Humphrey Bogart as Mante.
The movie was released in 1936.
Traveling Wilburys - "Traveling Wilburys Volume One"
U.S. Wilbury / Warner Bros. R.I.A.A. Gold Record Award .. Presented to WEA - Los Angeles.
