I'm not sure... the only instruments playing at the very end of the song are upper strings. In the big climax, something causes a pulsing sound in the cymbals, which I've attributed to some sort of overload distortion or limiting. It's not exactly low frequency information.

Keep in mind, timpani are pitched, but not pitched that low. The concert bass drum is definitely lower on the frequency spectrum. Witness the end of "Francesca da Rimini" conducted by Stokowski. The bass drum is insane on that recording and overloads, but in a pretty satisfying way.

Most any late-period Grateful Dead "Drums>Space" gets my vote for all cited criteria: astonishing, deep and impactful. Add resonant to the list.

A great example that can be experienced on both CD and LP is the "Wake Up To Find Out" show from 3/29/90. The "Drums/Space" in between "Dark Star" is insane. If you've got the wattage/amperage/voltage and apply enough gain they'll know it at your friendly local power company.

Well, if I thought “baby you’re a rich man” was a woofer loosener, I just found another famous track that had me worrying about subsonic’s. I put on a 45 RPM of Donavans “hurdy-gurdy man” on the Memory Lane label 15 Dash 2280. Wow they must’ve brought in Dr. Dre to re-issue this. It looks older though. I don’t even know if memory lane was Donovan’s label. But man the base on this recording!

Technically no rock record, but the bass on War's "The World is a Ghetto" LP is amazing. Not room-shattering, but very crispy and deep, especially on Track 2, 'Where Was You At?'. :agree:

I have the Epic recording of the Donovan on LP superb but the best Donovan recordings are the early Pye monos, well worth looking out for.

This is getting weird in here. Two albums have just been mentioned that I really love and admire, have owned since they were recorded, and I can listen to at any time ("Super Session" and "It's a Beautiful Day") but neither have "astonishing deep bass impact"

+1 for Metal Box. The bass on 'Albatross' makes the wooden rafters in our house rattle...and it wasn't even at max volume!

Smak's basist played his Fender Jazz Precision with wah-wah pedals at his solo in this instrumental track from 1977, what was rare regarding the 70s Progressive rock. That whole album was recorded in Morgan Studios in North London, where six months earlier the Jethro Tull recorded their Songs from the Wood, so the original LP sounds great even today and without being remastered.

The "Memory Lane" pressing was just EPIC's reissue label name, at that time. Look closely to the label and you will see the more famous EPIC logo (in white) to the left.

Everything on this set is stellar but the stand up bass is in the room with you...literally in the room...

All cleaned up unfutzed with flat monoraul transfers...

    Possibly my best sounding CD

I just love the bass at the end of Don't Give Up (Peter Gabriel).

... Tenuous link, Kate Bush uses deep bass on quite a few of her songs. Something I didn't appreciate until I got some larger speakers.

On track I use for testing bass response is Tom Waits' Hold On - big double bass note at the start of the chorus that rolls out so deep and viscerally.
