Which album purchased in 2017 has given you the most satisfaction?

For me it's this beautiful Netherlands Bach Society presentation of Bach's St. Matthew Passion.

The packaging is exquisite: 192-page hard cover smyth-sewn book with essays, color photos of musicians and museum art; the music is performed persuasively; the recording is well-balanced, rich, and clear; and I paid less than $30 for three hybrid SACDs!

I'm going to listen to this many, many times and enjoy the physical presentation almost as much as I enjoy the music.

All while continuing to be absolutely astonished at the price.

Not an album, but a box set. Last night I finished my third play through of Lili Kraus playing Mozart's Piano Sonatas finishing it up with the magnificent K310. The piano sonatas would not have been in my heavy listening rotation often prior to these performances. She has many of the qualities of Arrau but her playing is more agile. I definitely prefer this with Mozart to the drier playing ala Brendel or Uchida which is fine, but for me more suited to smaller dose listening.

I'll be getting many decades of heavy listening out of this cycle.

Is the satisfaction in the playing or in the value to your collection?

In the fall of 1975 a girl had just broken up with me, I had gone off to college in California, and Evil Woman was on the radio. That tune takes me back like a gut punch!

My satisfaction with this album “or any album” has nothing to do with packaging, or collector value, just the music. Old and obscure blues songs shouldn’t sound this exciting and fresh, but they do in spades on this album.

Value/ Money wise, "Cheap XMas" by Donald Fagen. You get all studio albums as decent vinyl masters in nice replica artwork that doesn't look blown up from digital in the slightest. Plus a disc of rarities. That's a quality release all around. OK.... "Morph The Cat" loses it's gatefold but.... come on!

Apart from that - and there are people among my so called friends that started to question my taste because of this - the super deluxe box of the new OMD album "The Punishment Of Luxury", vinyl, cd, demo cd, making of dvd, signed hardcover book. All in a nice box.

From the 2nd hand stuff definitely an amazingly well preserved very 1st US pressing of "Ramones", complete with typos on label ("Blitzkreig Bop") and "Marketed By ABC". Loud on headphones this one's unbelievable.

Oh.... and I couldn't help but feeling a little bit special when I finally found a Swedish original of Mando Diao's "Bring 'Em In". I know. Nobody's interested in it now but there was a point around 2002 when this was one of the most sought after new releases in Europe. A single local record shop managed to get it. Two copies:righton: Got offered 100€ each on the spot.

When I heard Charles Bradley was performing at Bottle Rock last year, I picked up his last couple of albums. Glad I did. Glad I had the chance to see him at least once, too.

I’ve seen Eilen live many times, own all her albums, and have even spoken with her and husband Jason. I’ve sung her praises often on the forum, even started a few threads about her whenever there’s an album release. I think she’s fabulous live, and brilliant in the studio, i’m very thankful to Idaho.:)

Wasn't expecting the best thing about this release: "The Sound"

First thing I played was the vinyl, Wow!

Finally a Queen LP that sounds fantastic.

The outtakes cd is excellent as well, really great sound and different versions (mainly musical, different leads, tempos, lead vocals from Freddie on Brian and Roger songs)

3rd disc is better than expected also, mainly for sonics.

    Great booklet, fantastic pictures.

Great DVD documentary on 77 tour and making of the album, almost all of it new to the fans.

    Very happy with this set!

    * Like others I too wanted 5.1 Hi Rez recordings and a full concert on Blu-Ray (Please guys release the Summit show from Houston!)
