So it sucks when a great character is killed off of a tv show. Which ones do you think are the worst?

I've never watched enough TV to have experienced too many of them. I suppose I could say Henry Blake on M*A*S*H, but even there I knew about it months in advance because it was mentioned in TV Guide.

The Big Move part 2 is the most devastating episode of a sit com ever. And Amos' character dies at the end of the first part.

I'm still mad about "King Of The Hill" killing off Cotton! The show kind of lost me after that.

Hutch on Baa Baa Black Sheep/Black Sheep Squadron. I was about 11. That one was a shock.

Still can't hold back a few tears all these years later. When I was a kid, I wanted James as a father. I admired his character.

Jonathan Kent dying of a heart attack on Smallville. He was actually a good character on that show.

Zeke Braveman. It's certainly wasn't shocking since the last season of Parenthood was pointing to this but it was very upsetting for me. I used to watch Parenthood because they didn't do stories like this and there it was. Awful.

When they killed that little kid in Breaking Bad, I was really shocked -- because you never see a 12-year-old kid murdered in a show like this, on-camera.

As far as regulars go, I was taken aback when they killed Matthew Crawley in Downton Abbey -- even worse to do it at the end of a final episode, and just in an unexpected throwaway manner. But they had to do it quick, because the actor kind of abruptly quit the series.

As a kid, we watched Bonanza and then the High Chaparral came on.
During the first episode of High Chaparral, Big John Cannon's wife, Annalee, took an arrow and died.
As a young kid, I was shocked (and stunned :) ) to see what I thought was going to be a regular character killed off within the first episode. Little did I know that was the set up for Big John to marry Victoria, the daughter of his long time Mexican enemy and thereby establish a truce and set up many future plot lines in episodes to come.

In recent time, I'd have to say Hank Schrader on "Breaking Bad".

Overall, tho, it's a tie between James Evans on "Good Times" and Edith Bunker on "All In The Family/ Archie Bunker's Place".

That's true, starting with Ned Stark and never stopping, even now some like Jon Snow's are a complete shock.

I found Kate's death in NCIS a real shock, I didn't see that coming and they did it in a pretty brutal way.

I love that the show does this. A few have upset me - Ros and Shae, mostly. But I love that the show is willing to do this, and with characters much more important than the ones I mentioned.

Another recent one that did really upset me was the death of
    Siobhan
    on Cinemax's Banshee.
