If I'm honest, for total studio output up to and including 1970...it's got to be The Kinks!!

I grew up hearing both in my household so I can say they both play a very big part of my life's soundtrack. My father is a Stones fan and my mom is a Beatlemaniac.
When I was an embryo/fetus she'd play them damn near every day so I knew many of their songs before I even entered this world. :)

Happy to see "Between the Buttons" but sad to not see "Their Satanic Majesties Request". :sigh:

They lost me at Some Girls.

I would never rank that before Aftermath, or place Goat's Head Soup ahead of BTB, either.

How about... all Stones albums other than Aftermath, Beggars Banquet, Let It Bleed, Sticky Fingers, Exile on Main Street, Some Girls and Tattoo You.

    Above Aftermath? No.
    Goats Head Soup? No.
    Between the Buttons? Yes.
As a whole, it's more robust but BTB's peaks (Ruby Tuesday,Let's Spend the Night Together,Yesterday's Paper(Imo),Back Street Girl, etc.) are much stronger.
You know what? I take it back. You're right. It shouldn't be above BTB. :p

John, if you dislike ER, fine. But who the hell cares how a bunch of people on a website rate any record?

To me, it's the Stones last truly great record, on a par with Some Girls due to not being grossly overplayed on radio, and better than Tattoo You. I listen to ER more than either of the other two.

Sami, I find it interesting as it is strictly a Rolling Stones forum as opposed to this forum which is not. The people on it are all Stones fans while the people here are not. I find it interesting how the opinions from this forum and that one differ regarding certain albums, songs, tours etc. since some of the people that respond here are only casual Stones fans.

I hear you, but as much as I respect your opinion, or any of the longtime Stones fans here, I could never rate the quality of any record based on what a group of strangers think of it, regardless of their level of fandom.

I don't rate the quality of the Stones albums based upon what the IORR members think either. I just find the differences of opinion interesting. It is also why I posted the NME lp rankings as they were different than the list compiled by Ultimate Classic Rock recently.

    NME rankings.

    1 - Sticky Fingers
2 - Exile on Main St.
    3 - Let it Bleed
    4 - Beggar's Banquet
    5 - Some Girls
    6 - Aftermath
    7 - Goat's Head Soup
    8 - Tattoo You
    9 - It's Only Rock'n'Roll
    10 - Between The Buttons

I'd rate The Rolling Stones and #2 above It's Only Rock'n Roll and Tattoo You. I don't think I've ever heard Some Girls.

Some Girls and Tattoo You wouldn't be in my Top 10, I can tell you that. I'd replace them with Now! and Out of Our Heads (US).

I like Out Of Our Heads or Now better than Between The Buttons.

Not for me. I love me some Kinks, but no one can touch the Fabs! :)

I don't really like any Kinks album until "Face to Face", and I don't really like any Stones album until "Aftermath". I enjoy every Fabs album...

Each to our own. The earliest Kinks album that I like all the way through is Kontroversy. For the Beatles, it's Rubber Soul (same year). For the Stones (and The Who), it's the debut album.

Some. For financial reasons, I had to sell most if my LP's some years ago. I kept some. Since then of course, I've replaced them all (and then some) with CD's.

The only person who seems to rate Bridges to Babylon (in print, anyway) is Keith Richards. I happen to think he's right.

I agree and the last one was pretty good too.

I think it's the most underrated of the Ron Wood Stones albums. It's not great, but it's good. And all the way through too, which is not something that always happens with the later Stones albums.

You know.... I like much of their music after Black and Blue, but it seems that from Some Girls on they still did good music, but got too predictable.
