Does anyone know who actually 'owns' the band name?

Ian Hunter looks great for his age, and fit. His Diary Of A Rock nRoll Star philosophy paid off.:)
Seen him live not a big fan of his solo stuff( the few hoople songs he played were perfect). Mott fans are in for a treat.

When I saw him last week he did only two Mott songs, Dudes and Memphis....Three if "Sweet Jane" counts. He did hit most of his best known early solo stuff though (aside from "Cleveland Rocks" which I didn't miss).

i'd guess Ian. He used to have a site called The Horses Mouth and would answer fans questions. Maybe you could ask there. After not being able to find the word Honaloochie in any dictionary I asked him what it meant. He answered it was just a word he made up for the song. My flabber was ghasted.

maybe they should perform as the 'Original Mixed Up Kids' rather than Mott...

I was at one of the Uris Theatre shows and I wouldn't say that Queen blew them away but I agree with you on Bender. He may have been a good guy to hang out and party with but to me, his playing in MTH just didn't grab me much of the time. He was a much better fit in Spooky Tooth and his playing seemed to have more imagination then. But I must say that his playing on the live version of "Sucker" gave the song the balls that the original studio version sorely lacked.

Yes, I agree with this. Have been a huge Mott fan but felt a bit disappointed when I heard this news. It's more like Ian Hunter & Friends not Mott the Hoople

But then someone would argue that they weren't the Original Mixed Up Kids.

They could follow the Spinal Tap model and perform as "The New Original Mixed Up Kids".

Is it Mott? Who are the band members? Mick had a Stroke, Overend is dead and Buffin had been sick.

Hard to believe that Ian is going to be 80 (!!!) next year...

Buffin is dead, also. This band has Aerial Bender, Morgan Fisher, and Ian. All surviving members of the band who recorded the "The Hoople" album.

I believe they're doing three festival shows, not really a tour.

Ian still tours a lot in the States. I've seen him 3 or 4 times in the last decade. Always rock solid.

OK, I'll have to admit... I'm sorry I'm missing these shows.

I had written them off mainly because they are festivals... I'm too old to put myself through that aggravation.

But if they bring this line-up anywhere, here or there, in a proper indoor venue... I am so there.

Ariel Bender still steals the live show... and Morgan has the keyboard lapels... classic!

Man, that guy's pushing 80 and is still a rock star. I'd love to see them.

And it's interesting (and most certainly right) that he changed the lyric from "Some spade said...." to "Some guy said...."

Three may not be a"tour" but the idea is the same.
They deserve their legacy payment !
