Disney Movies Anywhere is going away and they just fired up Movies Anywhere with most of the major studios on board (No Lionsgate or Paramount).

You can link your Amazon, Google Play, iTunes, and VUDU accounts and anything you bought or redeemed on one service will be available on all of them.

I'm looking at the movies right now and some I'm looking for are missing.

    Where's Richie Rich and Beethoven's 5th?

I've noticed some of my iTunes and Amazon titles haven't synced to the other services and as I said in the first post not all studios are included so it can be a little spotty. I imagine some of the kinks will work out over time, but it is a great start to unify online libraries.

Would be nice if the two movies I mentioned were included.

So any of the Disney movies we have added to that app can now be accessed through the moviesanywhere app?

Or VUDU, or Amazon, or iTunes, or Google Play if you link all those accounts.

I linked all my retailers to it and some movies apparently just aren't available on MoviesAnywhere. On the one hand, Despicable Me, which I only had through iTunes, now appears in my Amazon and VUDU libraries; on the other hand, Star Trek (similarly obtained through iTunes) does not. The Shootist and Gimme Shelter, which I purchased through Amazon, still do not appear anywhere but in Amazon. And my only movie in Google Play, A Hard Day's Night, does not appear anywhere but in Google Play. There's only a few studios that participate in this service and if your movie is not produced by one of them, it won't be available across accounts.

Richie Rich would be nice to see (Because I don't have HBO Family where the movie plays) and Matilda.

I set this up yesterday, via the Movies Anywhere app. I linked my Vudu, iTunes, Amazon and Disney accounts, and everything pulled in. There are few holdouts, so films from Paramount and Lionsgate are MIA.

I think this is a great service/feature, something that people have been clamoring for, for several years.

Unexpected benefits: one of the "free" movies you get for linking accounts is The Lego Movie. I did get it, and when viewing on my AppleTV 4K, it's automatically upgraded to the 4K/Dolby Vision version! Hard to beat a free 4K movie.

Another find: purchasing the Vudu HDX "Baby Driver" here for $3.95 (EDIT: looks like price increased to $5.95 today), and redeeming through Vudu, upgrades this movie to 4K as well! Normally I don't purchase digital movies/codes, but for $4, I can't resist a 4K movie.

If you're an AppleTV/iOS user, this service is pretty convenient. All your movies now show up under the "iTunes Movies" app, just like if you had purchased them directly through Apple. All movies are also available via the iOS Movies Anywhere app, and are able to be locally downloaded for offline viewing. All in one spot!

Went ahead and signed up. I linked my Vudu, Google Play and Amazon Video accounts. As already mentioned, some movies aren't supported. So 15 out of 20 total movies across all 3 services are now shared in Movies Anywhere, as well as within all 3 services.

TV Shows aren't supported, and it doesn't appear that rentals are either (I just rented Baby Driver on Google Play, and it only shows up within that service).

If they can get this to work with the unsupported studios, it could be pretty useful. Would be nice to have all content available including TV and rentals, though.

OK I've done some extensive testing over the past couple of days. If you're an AppleTV 4K user, link up all the "retailers" with Movies Anywhere, and buy UHD discs with codes, this info will probably be useful to you:

    1. If you redeem UHD Fox or WB codes via their respective sites, and select "redeem via iTunes", you'll get a full iTunes 4K HDR/DV when synced via Movies Anywhere, if iTunes currently sells it as a 4K title. But it will show up in VUDU as SD/HD only.
    2. If you redeem any Sony Pictures code through their own site (as instructed with the code), you'll get a 1200p Dolby Vision version in iTunes, if iTunes currently sells it as a 4K title. If iTunes doesn't offer in 4K (e.g. The Fifth Element), you'll just have HD (as expected). Should show up as HDX in VUDU.
    3. If you redeem HDX code via VUDU (including MD2D), you'll get a 1200p Dolby Vision version in iTunes, if iTunes currently sells it as a 4K title.

No one else tried this? Normally I'm not a fan of the quality of "streaming" content, but since there is no good/easy way to rip 4K UHD Blu-rays, I consider this service (with an AppleTV 4K) to be very convenient. And I get the content on all my devices, i.e. iPhone/iPad which also support downloading for offline viewing.

I was never previously interested in the VUDU "Mobile Disc 2 Disc" service, but for $2, you can upgrade your Blu-rays to ~1200p/Dolby Vision (or HDR) quality, if such movie is available on iTunes in 4K. I tried a few, it was quick and easy. Showed up in my library in about 1 minute.

I don't have a 4K TV but I've used their service to get HDX versions of movies that I have on DVD. It's $5 a title to do that but it works perfectly.

Quoting myself here, but #3 no longer works, i.e. us a regular HD redemption and have it upgraded to a 1200p DV/HDR version. iTunes changed its behavior late yesterday. But that was a mistake probably in the first place, so no real harm done.

The following is a list of the digital copies that did not transfer for me. Even after disconnecting and reconnecting retailers (Vudu/iTunes).

These films show in iTunes, but not in Movies Anywhere:
Anchorman 2 (digital copy from purchased exclusive Best Buy blu-ray)
Titanic (digital copy from purchased 3D blu-ray)
Hugo (received free from Apple several years ago)
Kick-Ass (digital copy from purchased blu-ray)
Skyfall (digital copy from purchased blu-ray)

These films show in Vudu, but not in Movies Anywhere -- and thus, not in iTunes:
Watchmen - The Ultimate Cut (digital copy from purchased blu-ray)
La La Land (digital copy from purchased exclusive Target blu-ray)

These films show in Movies Anywhere, but not listed under "Purchased" tab in iTunes:
The Incredibles (digital copy from purchased blu-ray)
Inception (digital copy from purchased blu-ray)
Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World (digital copy from purchased blu-ray)
Inglourious Basterds (digital copy from purchased blu-ray)

I've tried figuring out what the issues are, but can't. With that said, I love that the studios are working together to do this for the consumer. Already saved me $19.99 plus tax as I was seriously considering purchasing "Baby Driver" on iTunes for the exclusive extras -- but now I don't have to (the UltraViolet > connected Vudu account unlocked the iTunes extras thanks to Movies Anywhere.) Also, I was able to add expired codes. I just wish I had not thrown out previously expired codes after I bought my first Apple TV.

I own over 4,000 DVDs and blu-rays and in them there are only 27 digital copies haha. The best laugh I got was opening up Casino Royale blu-ray to see if there was a digital copy -- only to be reminded that it is a 2-disc film. (Part one of the film on one disc, part two on the second disc.) Anyways, here's hoping someday hard drives will be big enough to add our entire movie collections. (My first computer had only a 256MB hard drive, so it's possible.)

P.S. For weirdos like me, check out your movie library in iTunes. You'll find that some of the HD copies that you downloaded previously, are now available in 1080p thanks to Movies Anywhere. I re-downloaded about 150GB of films through iTunes that I had previously downloaded thanks to that upgrade.

For those that might be having issues (like I mentioned above) here is a reply I received from Movies Anywhere support that I'm hoping might be helpful.

The Movies Anywhere team has implemented several improvements to connecting iTunes accounts.

    I. If you are still having issues linking your iTunes account or are unable to see your eligible movies in either your iTunes or Movies Anywhere accounts, please try the following steps:

    1. Log in to your Movies Anywhere account.
    2. Go to your profile settings.
    3. Choose Manage Retailers.
    4. If you are showing as connected to iTunes, select Disconnect and follow the iTunes prompts to disconnect*.
    5. Reconnect to iTunes by choosing Connect and follow the iTunes prompts to connect. If prompted, please re-accept your Video Privacy Policy Act.
    6. Your iTunes account is now connected.

NOTE: It may take up to 1 hour for movies to appear in both your iTunes and Movies Anywhere accounts.

To find out which movies are eligible to transfer to Movies Anywhere, find the Search option in the Movies Anywhere app or website, and type in the movie title. Only eligible movies will show in the search results. (None of the movies I mentioned in my previous post show in the search -- at this time.)

*Steps on how to disconnect your iTunes account can be found in the link below

How do I disconnect a Digital Retailer account?

II. If your Movies Anywhere account on iTunes is showing as Pending, please contact Apple Support at the URL below and notify them your Movies Anywhere account is Pending:

    iTunes - Official Apple Support

III. If you are showing as connected to iTunes on Movies Anywhere but not seeing Movies Anywhere on your iTunes account, please email [email protected] and state “Movies Anywhere is not showing on my iTunes account”. We will then be able to troubleshoot your iTunes connection issue.

IV. If you are still unable to connect your iTunes account for any other reasons or have any questions, please email [email protected] and we will get back to you.

I've spend the past week redeeming codes and experimenting a bit, all with the goal of have the best possible quality (4K UHD and Dolby Vision/HDR when available) via iTunes/Apple TV 4K.

As of 22 October, this is my strategy for redeeming 4K codes purchased with 4K UHD Blu-ray discs. I come at this from the perspective of an Apple TV 4K user, as I prefer that as my 4K streaming platform:
    • Fox: redeem via iTunes - pushes into iTunes @ 4K no problem. However, might push HD in VUDU, although this issue is apparently getting fixed - may have to unlink/re-link your VUDU account to see changes.
    • Warner Bros.: redeem via myuv.com - pushes into iTunes @ 4K if available as UHD on VUDU. Otherwise, redeem via Movies Anywhere, first.
    • Sony: redeem via Movies Anywhere to guaranty 4K in iTunes. But, these titles will never show up in your UV locker. <- This may not be important if you don't plan on going outside the MA ecosystem. If you'd prefer to have your UHD rights in your UV locker, redeem via SonyPicturesStore.com but they won't come into iTunes as 4K, unless VUDU has it in 4K already.
    • Disney: redeem via MA app
    • Universal: redeem via iTunes - goes into iTunes @ 4K. Also redeem code in UV as well to get it in that locker.
    • Paramount: redeem via iTunes - goes into iTunes @ 4K. Also, redeem code in UV as well to get it in that locker.
    • Lionsgate: I'm going to hold off on redeeming any of their UHD codes until the figure out what they're doing with MA.

^^The most fun part of this is the iTunes "upgrade" of HD titles to 4K + Dolby Vision/HDR, if they have it. So basically, you can buy/redeem and regular HD code into iTunes from Universal/Fox/20th Century Fox, and get the 4K version for free, if iTunes has it. A lot of these codes are on the secondary market for $2-4 each. This doesn't work for Sony, Paramount, Warner, as you can't redeem those studios' codes directly into iTunes. NOTE: the VUDU "Mobile Disc 2 Digital" program I mentioned in post #18 no longer works to have iTunes upgrade your VUDU-upgraded movie to quasi-4K + HDR. Apple appeared to patch/fix this a few days ago.
