I also highly recommend Denon Receivers. I use the 3300. Plenty of power and sounds nice with music.

sorry I'm posting in two different places on this same thing. simply put since a 5.1 system has 5 speakers do I need 5 mono tube amps?

    Hi Floyd,

You can run the sub out of the Denon. You don't necessarily need a 5th
amp to get plenty of power. The subs have their own onboard amps
    anyhow.

Do you mean you dont need a 6th since the sub has it own power? There are still 5 other speakers though beside the sub.

    Hi Floyd,

That's what I meant. You don't need the 6th amp. Your sub has its
    own amp. It's been a long Monday.:o

Thanks for the info Gary, I just wanted to make sure I was following you. I would think Denon would be the way I'd go (my first cd player was a Denon the one where the disc was vertical and you could see it in the player) Anyway this way I can still add the tubes later and have that tube sound.

    Hi Floyd,

The great thing about buying a receiver with pass through is you can use
it stand alone in the meantime without amplifiers and it will sound fine.

When you're ready for the amps, the receiver will work as a preamp/processor and the addition of amplifiers will give you even cleaner sound.

Keep us posted on which Mfg and Model you wind up with.

If you're planning to get amps later make sure you go with a mid tier
to high tier receiver, other wise you're probably have regrets later.
The size of the transformer in the receiver and the wattage will effect
the overall sound especially if you add amps later.

    Happy Hunting!:)

then it looks like the ARV 3803. I'll start saving. By the way what does MSRP mean?

    Manufacturers suggested retail price!

    Usually Denons are steeply discounted.

I purchased my 3300 with an MSRP of $1000 for $740

Do the Denons have a phono stage?

Just to clarify: The upper tier ones do, but my 3802 doesn't, and I don't think the new 3803 does either.

My 3802 does have a phono stage, however.
