...and then there's Cleopatra, Morticia's carnivorous plant. Or whatever it was.

I always liked the Addams Family best. I haven't seen it in a long time, though. The Munsters seemed too goofy to me.

Adams Family, John Astin was good at looking deranged.
But it was a close call--ya gotta love a vampire from Brooklyn--"Hoimannn!"

Without a doubt...THE MUNSTERS! I never could get into the Addams family.

    Addams Family.

Munsters seemed simpler, cornier, if that is possible.

Addams Family. I prefer the absurd dark humor.

Same here. The Addams Family could be a little scary/creepy, The Munsters was not at all. And that's the major point of a show like that. I suppose for very young kids you might pick The Munsters. I always liked the coolness and sophistication of Gomez. He looked pretty normal amidst a bunch of freaks (except for the occasional sword-swallowing and hanging upside down), but he was acted like it was all appropriate.

I love those silly Munsters. The Adamms family actually scared me as a child.

    Addams family.

They were a strange family in what appears to be a normal world.

This should have been a poll...........

TWO polls, the other being which THEME SONG is cooler.

If only there were a friendly Gort-type-person around who could fix that. Hmm... :D

Addams! For some reason, I never felt compelled to watch the Munsters, and that was back in a time when my brother watched everything that was on TV.

I've always loved the Addams Family due to their eccentricities and dark humor. Gomez was the reason I always tuned in. He had the "odd" thing down pat. :)

Love both but I go with Addams Family. The writing still holds up IMO where the Musters are just goofy.

I like the Musters theme better.

The Munsters had the coolest cars, too. Although the Addams Family gets the nod for coolest chauffeur (Lurch).

Addams family humor is pretty twisted very much like the original Charles Addams' cartoons. The humor is more adult, and the characters more interesting. Interplay between Gomez and Morticia is a major plus. The Munsters is definitely aimed at the kiddies. I liked both back when they premiered back in '64, but always preferred Addams Family

Thanks for the posts. I didn't think to set up a poll; I expected maybe 5 responses! What I learned--never underestimate the child in every Hoffmanite!
Hard to compare songs--one has lyrics, one doesn't. Munsters is definitely more tuneful. By the way, I vote Munsters overall. After watching lots of Addams Family shows in a week I realized they rarely ventured out of the house. Munsters encountered many more locations and other people. I just saw the one where Fred Gwynn is out of his Frankenstein makeup for the whole show. Kinda creepy....
Finally, I remember 20-plus years ago Grampa Munster (Al Lewis) had a restaurant down in the Village, called, you guessed it, Grampa's. He used to stand outside it all the time, taking pix with people and smoking a cigar. He was a big guy, over six feet. Carry on....!
