Let's make this everyone but Elvis and John Lennon - their deaths had a huge impact on just about everybody. For me, it was Charlie Rich when he died suddenly of what I think was a blood clot. I had an on and off love affair with his music, loving his soulful voice and hating the fact that he could not sustain success in the late '50s and throughout the '60s. The solo piano version of Feel Like Going Home (on the 2-CD Sony Rich retrospective) just kills me, better than any other version I've heard. The Smash period was nearly flawless - No Home is a masterpiece. Was in total shock when I heard the report of his death. On a side note, when did Charlie Rich do those re-records for the K-Tel/Dominion label? Most are mediocre, some are okay.
