Animals is better than Dark side, because on repeat listening the songs flow together as a whole, and I like some of the solos better as well.

I also feel the message is much more clear, and relevant currently than dark side

I think of about 5 bands (at least) that are better than X that start with Y.

    Hearing what you're saying...
For my post about R.E.M., I thought about a band that I prefer an album different than (most of) this Forums' members AND the general populace at large.

To me, that's a wide grouping that I feel prefer a different album than I do; including casual pop music fans and also the more "knowledgable" SHF members here.

    Good points all around.

In the spirit of the thread:
My favorite Kate Bush album is The Sensual World, rather than Hounds of Love.

Yes there's some weak contemporary (My Old Man and California) and a nice in a 1967 vintage sort of way but we have to like it much more because it's about Joni's processing her putting her daughter up for adoption track. Hejira has no filler

Not that it matters, but just to be fair in reverse, there are some examples where the "popular favorite" is definitely my favorite as well. I think all of these are pretty clearly the artist's finest hour (to my ears):

    Rumours - Fleetwood Mac
Pet Sounds - The Beach Boys
    Thriller - Michael Jackson
Purple Rain - Prince & The Revolution
    Going To A Go-Go - Smokey & The Miracles

For me, Blue sounds a lot like the previous albums, twee even, whereas Hejira is unique (certainly doesn't sound similar to Hissing) and even now sounds mighty impressive

Not sure how half of Thriller could be filler when all but two of the tracks were hit singles. If it is a hit it is hard to call it filler.

My favorite Van Halen album is Women and Children First, not Fair Warning.

I really don't get all the Fair Warning praise. WACF is a nitro-burning party bus while FW is the slow, hungover day afterwards.

I'm just speaking from personal preference when it comes to "filler" material. I love Beat It, Billie Jean and Wanna Be Startin Somethin'. The rest? Meh (although Thriller has a great video).

My favorite Lou Reed live record is Take No Prisoners, because Rock n Roll Animal...um...just no.
My favorite John Cale record is Helen of Troy whereas most people I ask say, "John who?". (Maybe not here, but out in the real world.)
