MacGyver, first, welcome aboard. You obviously like Pioneer electronics. That PD-91 must be a nice CD player. I've had a PD-65 for years and have been very pleased with it.

thank you! i'm quite pleased with the sound and looks of the PIONEER PD-91/PD-3000 (JPN VERSION) i'm currently working on replacing this fully functional, but cosmetically worn PD-91 with a mint PD-3000. the deal should be sealed in a week...

I hope that TT in front of the speaker doesn't get used. Barry D would have kittens

they sound magnificent, too. an excellent value for $40.00 at the Sally-Ann. still, what i really want are a pair of PIONEER DSS-9:

MacGyver, upgrade the BSR turntable with a Technics SL1200MK2 or similar style turntable.

it does. why would this "Barry D" be upset? it is a fine sounding table, especially after my upgrades. it has a fresh, little-used ADC VLM Mk.II styli. i put a thick, shielded power cable on it, with three ferrite beads over that, replaced the stereo RCAs with high-quality ones, replaced the old drive belt and re-lubed the mechanism. all this adds up to excellent vinyl sound, with black backgrounds...

Because you have a speaker firing directly at a turntable inducing vibration. That in itself is giving you a hugely compromised resultatnt sound.
Barry is the vibration expert, or should I say expert at ELIMINATING vibration.
    Take a look...

I don't imagine the turtable itself is a problem, but it's location seems to promote acoustic feedback, especially at higher volumes.

i've played and recorded to CD-R from it, in that very location, with exactly ZERO problems...

No worries from me pal :)

My turtable sits on a shelf that has the right speaker diectly on the shelf below.

... but I sometimes have a problem. Thank goodness we are re-doing the basement, and I will get to rearrange things.

Well, of course - it’ a Pioneer!

    Please consider the following options:

    1. Bypass or get the EQ out of the chain.
    2. Purchase some American or British designed speakers.
    3. Set up the speakers in a proper listening position away from the walls and out of the corners. I understand you are limited with space constraints. Perhaps you can do this for “listening sessions” and then return them to the corners.
    4. I don’t see much vinyl, but moving the TT away from the speaker is a must and upgrading will bring big improvements. If you don’t listen to vinyl that much, upgrade this later.
    5. Please consider alternate manufacturers. :D

OK....now you really have my attention with those reel-to-reels. Move the speakers and let's see the real works of art.

That looks like an RT-909 RtoR on the silver rackstand. I have one here along with a very clean CT-F1250 both needing rebuilding.

That is my guess too. The other one to the lower left looks a bit older....maybe an L-1011 or L-1020?

    1. why? it serves my intended purposes very well. it is connected to the receiver's TAPE 2/MONITOR I/O loop, so it can perform as a passive spectral display for the system, which is it's primary duty, as long as it's power switch is ON. further, it's EQ functions can be injected/separated from the system at will via the receiver's TAPE 2/MONITOR button on the remote as well as the front panel.

    2. i am pleased with my current speakers, but i do indeed entertain dreams of stepping up to a pair of PIONEER DSS-9. i intend those to be my speakers for life.

    3. i find the speakers to sound quite pleasurable in their current location, with a couple-three inches separating them from either wall. still, thank you for the suggestion.

    4. again, i have no problems with the TT's current location. and, indeed, stepping up to a TOTL japanese TT cough-PIONEER PL-90-cough) is a personal goal.

    5. thank you for your advice, but i must decline. PIONEER is my chosen manufacturer. my system almost completely reflects nothing but my hand picked dream components that i have long lusted for for most of the first decade of this 21st century.

    Welcome MacGyver!
I see an "oldie but goodie" Laser Disc player...I have the same model. I was so proud when I bought that in 86-87. Does yours get heavy use? I rarely use mine now but I proudly display it in my system-it looks great in the rack!
