Unless something blows my mind in the next few weeks I'm pretty settled on these. This will be a pretty indie-rock heavy list but dig in anyway even if you don't recognize any of the artists' names. Not in any real order but the first few are my top of the heap. Cass McCombs - County Line<---My pick for the year. I wanna hear Neil Young cover this in a bad way. Lykke Li - Youth Knows No Pain<---Perfect! I play this one when I'm getting ready for a night of fun. Girls - Vomit...--->great Live Church version<---I'm sure it's been said many times but I think Pink Floyd fans should give this band a shot. Check out that live version. M83 - Intro<---Just perfect. I much prefer this one to "Midnight City." The Vaccines - If You Wanna<---Catchy to the extreme. Short and sweet tune that I've listened to at least 50 times this year. Cults - Go Outside<---What a video...don't drink the Kool-Aid! Panda Bear - You Can Count On Me<---I prefer the version that ended up on the album more than the 7". The Drums - Book of Revelation<---Not much to say except it's a damn fine song and fun to sing along with. Thao and Mirah - Eleven<---YES! Great opening track from a decent long player. Featuring tUnE-yaRds. Raveonettes - War In Heaven<---Raveonettes best album isn't really making many's top lists except mine. Kurt Vile - Baby's Arms<---I think members here would dig this if they give it a chance. WILD FLAG - Romance<---I'm a total fanboy. I saw them five times this year. My Morning Jacket - Victory Dance<---Good album...wish it was up to par with the opening cut. Fleet Foxes - The Shrine/An Argument<---Obvious highlight of their last album. Radiohead - Give Up the Ghost<---Best Radiohead track in a long time IMO. Mazzy Star - Common Burn<---Welcome back. Low - Nothing But Heart<---No, that's not The Melvins. A few electronic things below... Tommy Four Seven - Armed 3<---Bone-crushing real techno. Slightly industrial sounding. If Trent Reznor made minimal techno it might sound like this. Bvdub and Ian Hawgood - Beauty Is In the Eye of the Pretender<---Brock can do no wrong in my book. Epic and lush. For fans of Gas, Deepchord, Intrusion, etc. Mick Chillage - Returning Home<---hard to pinpoint a "best" track on an ambient album like this but this song should give you a clue of how the album sounds as a whole. Very Biosphere-esque.
