    Oh the magic of CD-r.

Recently there's been some complaints in the group about the Stones remasters not containing bonus tracks, correct versions, etc. So I decided to make my own versions of each UK stones studio album up until Let It Bleed, using the SACDs and other sources to add appropriate bonus tracks to each album. Also, at someone's suggestion, I compiled a 2-CD Hot Rocks collection that covers ALL the ABKCO hits. I hope you all enjoy and maybe get some ideas. Let me know if you have any suggestions, too.

Just to be totally authentic, the long version should really be part of the album itself, with the short/alt version as the bonus track. The original UK LP used the long version (albeit not in stereo).

Very cool, but what about My Girl (I know it's awful) and the edited version of Out Of Time from Flowers?

I sure like what you've done and will certainly use the CDs you've made as a template for my own CD-Rs. And just think, without any duplication you were able to include all released songs and dozens of unreleased outtakes on only eight CDs. AND there would appear to be real logic as to where the bonus tracks are added. And a ninth CD rounds up all the hits on a Hot Rocks set for those who would be so inclined to buy only that package. It all makes so much sense, both in terms of the music and in terms of meeting fans' needs. Not to mention saving fans a bundle. Makes you wonder what the hell ABKCO was thinking, doesn't it?

  5. Grant

Grant Life is a rock, but the radio rolled me!

I don't have all the songs for your version of Hot Rocks, but if I do my own, (and I like your lineup, which looks more like a singles collection in stereo) I will use MONO mixes.

Man--you have put some work into your Stones collection! Great job. If only ABKCO had put as much thought into giving us more bang for our dwindling buck. Wish I could hear your set!

Great idea - a better listening & more fun

I am thinking of making such CD-Rs too.
I would strongly recommend to use Look What You've Done (stereo) on disc RS no2, along with other STEREO tracks from Chess Studios.
(as well as unreleased ones: Meet Me in the Bottom, Tell Me Baby, Cops and Robbers, High Heeled Sneakers, etc. - from Chess or BBC only recordings). BBC trakcs may as well be spared for additional disc with only BBC recordings.

Aftermath CD-R should not be without Looking Tired outtake.

Do not forget about Don't Lie to Me by Chuck Berry off Metamorphosis nightmare. Maybe some other Metamorphosis outtakes should be included (maybe not).

The problem is to get bonus tracks in good quality, sometimes even in stereo. I bet ABKCO-hired tape researchers must have had access to many master tapes of unreleased Stones gems....

I think that if Abkco had released the catalog this way, the discs would have been priced differently...either expensive single discs or 2-disc sets. I didn't calculate the timing of all of these songs but I'm surprised that almost every disc as shown above can accommodate over 20 tracks.

Great comps - all on 8 discs.

I made a few similar ones for the car, and I put Dandelion and We Love You on SM. I think the single was released about 6 months after BTB, and about 2 or three months before Majesties. I remember being surprised it wasn't on there at the time.

Excellent work, man! I did a few myself, too, though only for the earliest stuff. I actually reconstructed the Around and Around compilation for one. Wasn't a chronological or entirely comprehensive compilation, but was still a great album!

    Hello quanzaboy. Welcome.

Perhaps you are not aware of some of the forum rules but with threads such as the one you started, you are required to sift through all the comments, do your homework, and post a revised, definitive song list.

Were you to fail to comply then... well, you don't wanna know. It's so horrible and humilliating. Please don't make Steve call the Enforcer.

great job kwanzaboy!!! you saved me from attempting another thing I'll never get around to doing!!

Perhaps this can be added to the FAQ for perpetuity?

Is it OK to ask where are the best sources for the alternate takes and other non-commecial releases?

mud, there are actually two versions of "Fortune Teller" but they are the same recording. The version that was on the original "More Hot Rocks" is edited, and the reissue is the full version with the lines "Now I'm a happy fellow, cause I'm married to the fortune teller, we're happy as we can be, now I get my fortune told for free" repeated again at the end of the song.

Kwanzaboy - I just started burning copies of the Stones library using your excellent track lists and I noticed that "One More Try" is missing from Out of Our Heads.
