One of my favourite genres of rock and roll is power pop. This song, a live version of I Can't Take It by Cheap Trick, perfectly exemplifies what it is all about. Hooks aplenty, propulsive rhythm guitars, and smooth yearning (but non-bluesy) singing.

Name a favorite track of yours in the power pop genre.

Doesn't Zander rock it? He is so underrated, one of the best lead singers in rock history.

That tune defines power pop for me.

Excellent. I like the extended guitar soloing and the drums are ace too. Cargoe's drummer was great too. I got to check out Sweet, don't know much about them.

One fantastic tune! Yes, I know, the lyrics, but what people overlook is the vibe: the perfect distillation of Eddie Cochran / Pete Townsend - styled Summertime Blues power chording with an upbeat poprock backing and cheery, leering vocals. Definitely underrated, usually dismissed as nothing but bubblegum but IMO there's more to it.

Note the Roger McGuinn-influenced breaks (the lead guitar in general). These guys knew all the buttons to press.

One of my favourite all-time songs, on the heavier side of the PP spectrum, but in the zone for sure.

The sweet vocal and the subject matter are extremely power pop. The chords while heavy, are compact. It is thus decreed power pop. :)

The United States gave us Big Star, The Raspberries, and so on, but I always felt British power pop was the best. Suzi Quatro was the embodiment of power-pop cool, and Pilot's "Magic" is about as good as it ever got.

I had to post a demo because I couldn't find the album version on Youtube.
    It's fantastic, either way.

Definitely. I was just reading an article about the real Sharona, she is a real estate agent today, I think in Phoenix. That cover..
