Expressway To Your Heart by The Soul Survivors sounds so good on the Varese Sarabande late sixties compilation. It's not a track I was ever crazy about, but the sound alone of it here engaged me enough to play it a few times and get kind of attached to it. The way I know an oldie is well remastered is when the hiss is very lean and clear and sounds deep in the background, as if the vocals and music are actually physically on top of the hiss, but not having anything to do necessarily with volume levels on either part. Does that make sense, or am I a fruitcake? Any old recordings from compilations that you care to recommend on sound alone?
