Anything Box-Peace-1990, a blind buy back when released, still played regularly :), Dropped from the label when they refused to pick up guitars, so the story goes..., I think

Terrific power pop type band from Nashville, Tennessee on Elektra Records. I actually went to high school with the drummer. This is a great album that went absolutely nowhere, unfortunately. Elektra dropped them after just this one release. The melodies are incredibly catchy and it's just a great sounding album all around. The drum sounds in particular are huge while still sounding very dynamic.

Nice to see post for Grant Lee Buffalo.

Here's another if it hasn't been posted already...

Indeed, a great band. Come Clean is a masterpiece, as is the Boatmen's Please Panic from '92.

Obviously, you don't dis Marilyn Manson and get away with it.

While not obscure, I think Jawbreaker is overlooked in this day and age. It's anecdotal on my part, but it doesn't seem anyone really remembers them when talking about 90s groups. Maybe they weren't overlooked so much in their time, but I'd say they are now.

Here's one of their more obscure cuts though, Caroline:

This was pretty obscure when it was first released, and went out of print rather quickly. Original pressings on cd will go for $40-50.00 dollars. Even though they are finally being recognized as important band, they are still underground and pretty obscure.

I loved these guys for a long time and then woke up one day and couldn't listen to them any more. I don't understand it. :( -E

Absolutely fantastic rock album. They toured with Rollins Band to support it. Not a bad track on it.

Great song! I remember liking it back in middle school in the late 90s and it got decent airplay on MTV and VH1 from what I remember. I just ordered the album for $4 shipped in like-new condition on Amazon! Plenty of copies for cheap on eBay too!

You've probably heard Flagpole Sitta but the whole album is great.

One album from the 1990s that was somewhat overlooked at the time it came out that has gotten to be more revered by many is Amy Grant's "Behind The Eyes" which was only certified Gold coming off the heels of the multiplatinum Heart In Motion and House of Love albums. I still think that more people should discover this gem of an album.

Here's an obscure one. The Jumpstarts were a quality 3rd wave ska band who really played more rocksteady in a groove similar to Hepcat:

Type O Negative - October Rust

This album's layout / band image does not represent the musical contents of the album - looks like a death metal / goth / whatever album.

This is melodic multi-layered "prog-rockish" music from the 90's @ it's best, with a completely unique sound.

It is actually one of the few 90's releases that I still manage to listen to today, having been around for that decade and all that.

Sort of like a british Silverchair but I loved them in the 90's and they are pretty obscure I think.
