And in case there are any fans here, they have a new album that just came out this past Friday.

Anyone else remember The Catherine Wheel? The local alternative station in the 90s used to play them frequently, especially "Crank" and "Black Metallic".

Ahhh... I enjoy Jimmy Ray. He's working on a new album, actually.

That Semisonic song plays all the time at my work, to my chagrin.

Australia had dozens of great little bands that produced two or three albums and died before acheiving any major success. Have been pretty much forgotten, but for me they were a large part of the live scene around my late teens, early twenties and loved going to see them every weekend.
Bands that immediately come to mind are The Falling Joys, The Clouds, The Hummingbirds, Def FX, The Beasts Of Bourbon, Died Pretty, Primary, Ammonia, Deadstar, Even, Sidewinder, Not from There, Pollyanna, Regurgitator, Skulker and Stella One Eleven.

Big fan, saw them a couple times and met them at an autograph session during the release of Happy Days in 1995. The singer, Rob Dickinson is paternal cousin of Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden). They changed their sound in their later records and lost that shoegazing sound and I recall them being accused of selling out. Regardless I enjoy their body of work. Fripp on the album Chrome (1993) is a personal favourite as is Black Metallic on the album Ferment (1992).

Rob mentioned Talk Talk during that autograph session, and said to the audience that if you would like to hear a great late night album put on Talk Talk's Spirit of Eden. Like many others I had heard Talk Talk's early hits but Rob's suggestion turned me on to their later work which is fantastic and perhaps was influential to Catherine Wheel's output. Then of course I noticed the name Tim Friese Greene as Catherine Wheel producer who was also part of Talk Talk!

In the early days of Black Metallic, when performing live they would blend in Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here. This led to them releasing their own rendition of Wish You Were Here as a single as well as on the album Like Cats And Dogs (1996).

Listening to them now, thanks for pushing them to the front of my memory.

This still pops into my head as an ear worm every now and then. Truthfully, I'd forgotten the name of the band.

When it comes to UK rock, the 90s was a lost decade for a lot of US fans.

Friese-Green produced some of Talk Talk but was never an actual member. That was Hollis, Webb, and Harris. You can hear a lot of Friese-Green's influence on Catherine Wheel. There are moments in many songs were it's remarkably similar in terms of style and tone.
