I’d like to get some sort of mp3 player, and I have a few questions and need some advice. For starters, here is what I’d like: • I’m only using this for “rarities” of sorts: stuff from compilation albums, stray tracks here and there, etc. I won’t be loading it up with whole albums. So I would say if it can hold 500 songs, that’s more than enough. • I will never be using this thing on the go. It needs to plug easily into my receiver at home. • I HATE the technical aspects of downloading. I have downloaded in the past and burned CDs, but I want to get away from that. Simplicity is the key. I remember having problems before with iTunes vs. Napster: I would download from Napster, burn a CD, then have to rip that CD to get it into Windows Media Player. I definitely want to avoid this hassle with different formats. Generally, I like Amazon now, but I realize iTunes has unique stuff I might want, so I don’t want a huge hassle getting tracks from different sources into one program on my PC and then onto the player. I know how to use (generally) Windows Media Player. I know it probably sucks, but the thought of having to learn a new program is painful. Still, I need one program to handle downloads from Napster, Amazon, and iTunes. So, my questions: 1. What is a decent player, not outrageously priced, that will easily allow me to upload music from my PC and which I can easily connect to my receiver without a docking station, and which can handle various file formats? Note: I’m not too concerned about sound quality, as I know it will generally suck compared to what I’m used to. 2. When my old computer was on the way out, I put all the music I had on it on a thumb drive and transferred it to my current PC. Unfortunately, all the Napster stuff won’t work anymore and says I need a license; in other words, I have to re-download and pay again. I don’t mind this incredibly because it might cost me $100 total, but I’d like to avoid this in the future. Is downloading from Amazon a good way to avoid this, or will I have the same problem down the road again? Many thanks in advance for your help.
