I'm currently in the process of needledropping a bunch of vinyl singles I have from the late 80's. Some of these singles were also issued as CD singles and, whilst many tracks are exclusive to vinyl, several appear on both formats. My initial plan was to stay vinyl wherever I could (and putting in the effort to declick and tidy where necessary) but it occured to me that any benefits I may get from staying analogue are lost the minute the music is copied to CDR. I use a separates CD Recorder (Pioneer PDR 609) for 'dropping and I'm presuming that the sampling technology incorporated in my CDR won't be a match for the professional equipment used back in the late 80's. I don't want to get into the merits of vinyl mastering/sound versus that of CD, just some thoughts on whether 80's vinyl 'dropped to CD is better worse than using 80's commercial CDs as source.
