To each his own, I guess.
I own (or have owned) around 20-25 of the Neilster's albums — but never Harvest.

I think Harvest is one of his very best albums, it just happens to be a popular, non-connaiseur choise, though I prefer Tonight's The Night.

I bought one of those 17 copies. Though immediately sold it.

Was it ever sold separately? It came with my copy of Weld.

Yes. I have it as a separate CD.

  8. a little sad and chilling that a life time's career can be reduced to some convenience plays on portable devices

Mine was packaged separately, in it's own jewel case, but it was sold in the same shrink wrap. Kind of like Moby Grape's Grape Jam, which originally came with Wow, but on the used market is always sold seaprately.

If I didn't consider it part of Weld, I'd have dumped it long ago.

The RIAA (American) lists the following:
    • 4x platinum: Harvest
    • 2x platinum: ATGR, Harvest Moon
    • platinum: Rust Never Sleeps, Live Rust, Decade*, EKTIN
    • gold: Freedom, Greatest Hits, Sleeps with Angels, TFA, Unplugged, Zuma, American Stars n Bars, Comes a Time, Mirror Ball, On the Beach
*Decade was a 3-record set, so going platimun only equals 333,000 units.

The certs are really different - and kinda suspect - in Canada:
    • 5x platinum: Harvest Moon
    • gold: Le Noise, Greatest Hits, Ragged Glory, Freedom
    In the UK:
    • 3x platinum: Harvest
    • 2x platinum: ATGR
    • platinum: Decade, Greatest Hits
    • gold: Comes a Time, Harvest Moon, Live Rust, Unplugged, SWA
    • silver: American S&B, Prairie Wind, On the Beach, Mirror Ball, Freedon, EKTIN

I would guess that he's sold at least 4 or 5 more copies of each these titles since 2004.

The list is 14 years old so sales have gone much higher until when the cd format went bust. He hit about 7 more years of gravy out of these tired albums.

I remember Neil Young being huge in 1979, a popular and critical high point for him. Rust Never Sleeps and Live Rust got a lot of play. So I would expect them to be among his top sellers.

Likewise. And Harvest Moon outselling Rust 2:1 is REALLY surprising.

I don't consider it a sequel that many years later just because of the title. Harvest is so vastly superior there's no comparison.

Live Rust is a double record also no? (so cut the sales in half too)

On the flip side, I wonder if "Harvest" itself got a sales bump in 1992 from befuddled (but well-meaning) gift-givers!

Harvest Moon contains one of only 2 singles that made the UK top 40. The title track.

What do these mean: TFA, SWA?

I got EKTIN (Everyone Knows This is Nowhere) and ATGR (After the Gold Rush), but what are TFA and SWA?

    Ah, true.

I mean, everything he puts out now is multi-disc on vinyl, but I'm pretty sure that doesn't count. Double vinyl in the vinyl era counted as two units, double vinyl in the CD era counted as one unit.
