As I recall Harvest Moon and Unplugged was where NY really came back to the mainstream and mainstream radio again. Freedom and Ragged Glory got good reviews but he was still swimming upstream a bit after the commercial and critical damage caused by the 80s output.
It's easy to forget, but in Europe at least, he was a cult artist/has-been by the mid/late 80s. Some dates on the 1987 Euro tour with Crazy Horse were cancelled or moved to smaller halls due to low ticket sales.

I think 4.3 Mil of Harvest in 1972 would equate to about 10 Mil now. Enabling him to drive right into that ditch that was so much more interesting...

I think 4.3 Mil of Harvest in 1972 would equate to about 5000 now. Barely anybody (outside of this Forum) buys anything now.

I agree with those who say Harvest Moon is a sequel in name only.

For me it's a pleasant listen, but nowhere near deserving top-five NY sales figures!

I meant numbers in terms of inflation. But yes I agree, no way it would actually sell that many today

As a Neil-Head since I was 9 in 1981, I have owned Harvest on cassette, CD (80s press. and HDCD reissue), the reissue vinyl (Bellman cut), and about 10 pressings ranging from 1st pressing to late-70s.
And it's not my favorite Neil album by a long shot. Damn thing won't go away!!

    HELP!!!!! :yikes:

I bought ArcWeld. The Weld CD has sat in the CD Drawer since the day I bought it (probably release day) and never come out. So mark me down as one of the 17.

Neil has a very loyal following, but I don't think it does much for sales records. "Harvest" came out at the peak of CSN&Y mania, and it was a good album, so it logically has become the classic.

I agree that Harvest is far from his best. But it is probably in his top 30 albums, so keep going you are almost there.

I think that record was lousy, myself, just didn't keep my interest at all. Comes A Time was a thousand times better. Even Silver and Gold was better.

I think these numbers are roughly correct. They show how he has a fan base that pushes him over 500,000 units consistently.

But I would bet many of these did not hit these numbers until the CD explosion.

I also wonder how the missing six could do as well as they did when OOP for many years? Unless they caught up in sales when reissued which I doubt.

Btw Neil was well represented in the cutout bins from 1973 to 1984 both LPs and 8-tracks. His albums were over-pressed every time by Reprise.

Hey Vinyl Man Another bloody Yank down under...

I remember when I bought my copy, the guy behind the counter checked his journal to see how many copies that made (that he'd sold). This was 1996, so it had been out for a few years, and I believe the number was in the single digits. Which is also probably the number of times I've listened to my copy. It does have a great cover.

well just cause they bought it, you can't assume that. I bought it too. but admittedly, I kept it, unlike Old Ways, where I just taped Misfits and sent it on its way. :)
