  2. OK, maybe I "overlooked" that one. I always liked that song even though most fans loathe it's preachy tone. I've just ordered Dreamin' Man while I wait for Blue Note Cafe. Geez, 2015 is looking even more expensive than 2014! Just when I said to myself "No more!" It never works, does it?

Wasn't TOAST on Neil Young's official "coming soon" roster somewhat recently?

In summary, the Archives Performance Series looks like this:

So *at least* another SIX volumes to come...we can speculate that Volume 4 might be "Time Fades Away II" for 1973, another (Volume 6?) must cover 1976 (Odeon/Budokan)...I wouldn't be surprised Volume 8 was the "Trans" tour. So Volume 5 might be the 1974 bottom line acoustic show...Volume 7 might be the Boarding House 1978? As for Volume 10: Might be something from 1986/87 I presume.

I hope it goes beyond Volume 12 though.

Bottom Line 74 exists only as an audience tape.

  8. Do you really think it'll stop at Volume 12? Come on man, be serious! There'll be shows from today and tomorrow eventually. NY has no worries these days about releasing everything he's ever recorded. Granted, you might have to live to be 175 years old to be around for Volume 30 but......

Except that he's been talking about it since 1988 and really hasn't done so.

  11. It's because he's been busy making far too many mediocre new albums since then to take stock of the archives and work on those releases. He's the rock equivalent of Woody Allen, churning out mainly sub-standard retreads of earlier glories nearly every year when he could have done with releasing a lot LESS and maybe raising the QC bar a bit higher in the process.

I would hope that an album from the Mirrorball tour would surface eventually.

I'll likely pick this up. These tend to sound pretty good.

Has ever been mentioned if Riverboat is ever going to get a vinyl release?

Eh, everybody's a critic. Thankfully, no one person gets to define quality.

You don't even get to try if you never get to hear it in the first place.

Is that a deal killer? I mean, has there ever been a great live album released culled from a really good audience tape?

Most of us have a ton of live Neil, plus previously released material out of print....for free.
Granted except for TFA hdcd, its not in the quality of sound that Neil's been releasing it in.
Not to mention his management doesn't seem real concerned about taking any of it off You Tube or the download sites either.

So if the guy charges a premium for what he releases, in quality, I say good for him, because most aren't paying for it anyway, yet it somehow ends up on most fan's hard drives, if ya know what I mean.....

Yes, and virtually all the people who own "boots" of his shows or listen to them on You Tube are going to definitely buy whatever archival releases he puts out officially anyway.

yes. Matrix venue has several that were recorded from mic hung form the ceiling and a soundboard feed of the vocal. There's some velvet Underground ones.

I think Ray Charles and Replacements as well.

So then it can be done with the '74 Bottom Line show?

FWIW, I pick and choose for sure, because to paraphrase Ol' Neil; "There's not an obligation to buy or attend everything I do."

But you've got to give the guy credit for one thing, he's still out there trying.
He could have stuck with that playlist from Carnegie Hall in 1970, and pretty much called it a career at that point.
    Glad he didn't....
