On vinyl record, reel-to-reel tape, 8 track cartridge, bluray, laserdisc, etc. Any format you can think of, except for cd, which is not good enough for Neil's (old) records anymore

Maybe 50th anniversary editions for the usual copyright EU issues.

do you know something we don't??

if time fades away comes out on CD, with matching spine art for the first 4 ORS cds, i will jump out of a 1st story window from excitement.

edit: the article is talking about the vinyl re-release... i don't think a cd is coming any time soon. :(

It implies that there's a CD version in the works -

"And with vinyl reissues of four albums -- 1973's Time Fades Away, 1974's On The Beach and the 1975 albums Tonight's The Night and Zuma -- coming on Sept. 6, Roberts says Young has finally checked off on reissuing the oft-requested Time Fades Away, though no release date has been set"

If you read carefully the Billboard article, Elliot Roberts said that Neil has approved the TFA release, but there isn' a certain release date. Clearly TFA has been released on Pono and on vinyl. Roberts is speaking about a general release.

I have it on cd as well. Not official though, and to be fair the 1995 HDCD mix isn't as good as the more recent mastering.

i thought it coudldn't be remixed, because of the nature of the original recordings.

It can be remixed by the multitrack reels, clearly with a different sound.

    ah yes. that's right ;-)

personally, i wouldn't want a remixed TFA. just put out the master that's available.

if you're going to remix the tapes, then just present them as full concerts.

It should be interesting to know exactly which multitrack reels they have in the vault from the period 1973-1978. I can only assume that as a private archive generally they kept the two track mixes or the soundboards But what about the multitracks?

What recent mastering? For the vinyl reissue?

I know that the Pono master is 192 KHz, but the "logo " is Reprise 1995. This should mean that in 1995 Neil Young has delivered to Reprise a copy of the digital master. The Pono master could be a "tweaking" from the same master. For example the Journey soundtrack is a re-recording at 192 KHz from a lower master.

So my Grandson is now 5 and I was thinking that maybe this set will come out by the time he gets married.
