167. Neil Young & Crazy Horse "Live At The Fillmore East"
Sales this week: 7,467
Aside from a few print ads, Reprise hasn't exactly been promoting this release very well. That combined with the fact that Neil has issued a lot of material recently (how many versions of Greendale? Followed by "Greatest Hits", "Prarie Wind", two versions of "Living With War" and the "Heart Of Gold" DVD doesn't surprise me that sales are down for this one. I only hope it doesn't affect the (hopefully) future release of the Archives boxes.
There's virtually NO promotion for this.
All the more reason for reissueing his back catalog as remastered cds +24/96 DVDs- NOW rather than later!
I'm surprised its that much. The problem is that the audience for this kind of thing is probably small. Advertising may not make much difference except to notify some of the small audience (but I think they'd probably already know).
I have not seen it for sale in any store.
What was its debut chart placement?
It's selling poorly because it is frankly very poor value for money! 43 minutes!
Some of my favourite albums are 30 minutes long...or less.
I never knew this existed. Definitly going to seek it out.
Although I am a hypcrite cos I bought it lol.
i am only aware of the HDCD encoded disc. on what other format was LWW issued?
I had no idea this was even available! Thanks for posting this. I'll have to go look for it today.
Neil has just released the early mixes (sans chorus) of the album.
ok, maybe not quite as impressive sales as say, THE BEATLES love, but with nearly 7,500 units sold last week of a 36 year old previously unissued title, still not bad for a catalog artist. and neil has been saturating the market recently.
i'd be curious to know the chart position of the new WHO album.
yes, there ARE issues with this title: it's expense (CD only package lists for $19, i got mine on sale for $15), it's brief program length, it's shoddy packaging and, lastly, it's sound, which, in spite of being HDCD encoded, appears constrained (spring for the stereo DVD-A which sounds amazing in comparison, $25 list).
a disappointment? a tad, but i'd rather have it than not and i await other titles in the series, hopefully bundled with a DVD-A.
I agree with the "poor value" comment, but not because it was just 43 minutes. We're basically getting just half of the show, and I want the whole enchilada. I've picked it up in the store a couple of times, then put it back in the rack. Maybe when the "Deluxe Fillmore Complete Edition" is issued 4 months from now...
Living With War: Raw comes out on Dec. 19 (although you can already buy it on iTunes). It's basically Living With War without the choir parts. Not really worth getting unless you're a completist (which is why I got it)...
For this raw limited-edition CD+DVD version of Living With War, the critically acclaimed original album, Neil Young strips away the choir, ratchets up the guitars and blasts away with all the passion and volume worth of one of rock's greatest singer-songwriters. In addition, packaged with the new audio CD is a DVD featuring video clips documenting the recording sessions for each of the 10 songs on the album (which is also presented with new artwork). With this Living With War, Neil Young is once again rockin' the free world
Here ya go...
125. The Who "Endless Wire"
Sales this week: 11,324
Some good points in previous posts--Word of mouth and good reviews are about all The 'Oo or Neil Young have going for them Stateside. Cannot imagine either getting airplay or video rotation. Might be a different story in some European countries.
Has anybody heard any songs off of this on the Radio ? I haven't, you'd think some of the Classic Rock stations would play it.
I would have bought it the day it came out but I can't find the DVD-A version anywhere. So I wait...
Why don't you order it online?
I will if I don't see it soon locally.
I had a very hard time finding this. It's similar in length to albums from the vinyl era; that is not a problem for me.
Both are getting airplay here!
