Just received an email from Warner Music Canada advising me that there is a delay on the vinyl and that a restock shipment is in transit. I had pre-ordered prior to release, so am not sure whether they were unable to meet demand or whether there is any connection to the aforementioned quality issues. Thankfully I have the bundled download to listen to for now, but it would be nice to have the record.
I listened to my LP again last night--this album is short, but strangely satisfying. It has that vibe that all his 70's work had.
My guess is, as I wrote at the time, he is 71 and likely indulged in some of Willie's Reserve in Colorado?
YES!!!!!!!! I've mentioned this before. Can a 71-year old rocker just be high without people accusing him of "dying" or "having dementia"...? Heck...I'm 44 and I have encountered strains in California and Oregon that probably gave me the outward appearance of "having dementia" or "dying"... Geez...it's Neil Young...is it so hard to believe? It's 2017...it's legal almost everywhere (as it should be)...and it's used as medicine.
I've done it with success, but it's very risky. This is not a 'set it and forget it' technique. I monitor the temperature with a laser thermometer and flip it frequently.
Bought a backup copy of the eu vinyl today. The sound is excellent and the vinyl is flat! I have a feeling this album will have a spot in my heart for decades...
Have you paused to consider for a second that people may just have been concerned for his health, rather than "accusing him of dying"?
As I posted yesterday, new vinyl stock should be available soon. Warner Music Canada advised me that a restock shipment is in transit and should be available soon. I would assume that would mean that retail stores will get more stock, too.
Pocahontas is amazing on this album. I always liked the Rust Never Sleeps version quite a bit but this solo take is better to me. Side one is epic Neil.
It looks like the one from Neil's website comes with a download but my preorder from Amazon did not have it....did anybody's else from Amazon have it?
Yes! Thanks for the reminder. I usually don't bother with these but will make an exception for this one.
Boring is a bit tough, but I am not spinning it a lot. Maybe you had to know the material before to appreciate the new versions? The only one i knew was Hitchhiker, and I prefer the Lanois version.
You did not know Powderfinger or Pochahontas before Hitchhiker? 1. How is that possible? You have gone through life with no knowledge of Powderfinger? 2. Run and buy Rust Never Sleeps immediately.
Excellent album with a classic NY acoustic sound. I particularly liked Powderfinger. BTW, I listened to this by streaming the MQA/Master hirez version (24/96) on TIDAL. The sonics were excellent.
Anyone know what the quality of the digital version from Neil's site might be? Can't be lossless, can it? All it says is "digital album." Hitchhiker Vinyl With $5.99 shipping it's not cheaper than anywhere else, but could be worth it if the digital version is something other than a 320 mp3.
