Watching LAH now are we expecting Alchemy to be a live film too? I very much hope I can watch a whole performance of this.
Yes Neil said a few months ago that it is a film and album so I think it will premiere when subscriptions launch.
watching neil jam out hard brings a tear to my eye. the man is 72 years old (67 in the video) and can still bring it. we will be in a world soon where neil won’t be making weird new albums. i can’t prepare for that. this like a hurricane video is life changing. it felt like a church sermon. and holy CRAP that ending?!?!?!?
uh, so that blew my mind, and I've seen and heard a LOT of neil young. and right at the end, when they bust into "rockin' in the free world" and the lightning strikes? CRAZY.
Incredible performance of Like A Hurricane. The combination of the music, the driving rain and the lightning strike at the end - wow! Over 30 minutes long and not once does it feel too long. With material like this available, it's hard to imagine how anyone can have doubts about the online archives. It won't be perfect and it likely won't last forever but it's easily going to be worth the $20 per year, especially when you factor in live streams and pre-sales.
I'm speechless after watching that performance. I'd read a lot about it and even watched some fan video on YouTube, but nothing could have prepared me for how epic that was. That very well could be the greatest NY footage ever filmed and I would even argue that it goes down as one of the greatest rock'n'roll performances of all time, period. The sheer joy on Poncho's face as he is bouncing around and beating the crap out of the Stringman in the final 10 minutes says it all. WOW.
man that kicked ass. beautifully shot. great sound and video quality and pretty cool with the storm. I love watching Neil just lock into a jam like this. Archives could be an invaluable resource if it is utilized to release audio and video stuff that might be excellent but not of sufficient quality for retail release.
It is a special performance for sure. The sound blows me away. Talbot dancing around in a circle and his facials crack me up. Love them.
At around the 21:30 mark Poncho looks like he’s telling Elizabeth that he’s coming to join her. Be The Rain indeed!
I'm watching it now and it's giving me a lump in my throat; in fact I'm nearly in tears. For me, it brings back 1977 and my youth. Love you, Neil.
It's on the site and viewable any time, at least for now. The rain gives it a whole other worldly feel, intense.
That was an odd farm aid set. Neil was in a strange mood. Some of the arrangements for me didn't work....tell me why, show me for example. Love and Only Love and Ohio were standouts for mine. I still haven't gelled with POTR. They seem to be lacking something for Neil's music.
The others were up for 48hrs. Hoping for an Alchemy release soon so it's all out there in it's full ragged glory. Hope to see Adelaide or Melbourne shows which i attended in the mix.
I was at Farm Aid last night and agree the set was odd. It was also my first time seeing him with POTR and I just didn’t get the hype. Maybe tonight in Saratoga Springs.
In general I like Neil with POTR and the gig i saw with them in 2016 was my best Neil experience but my biggest issue is that Lukas guitar sound is just so weak and doesn’t work with the louder Neil songs. And also I have no time for the extra percussion
Same here. I really enjoyed the show I saw in 2016 but it lacked the power of Crazy Horse overall, especially when they did CH material.
