I had replied earlier to this with "The Vol. 1-4 that were released on CD were in jewel cases so hopefully these are as well." However, since Decade wasn't released as a jewel case, who knows at this point?

Only the individual CDs of 1-4 and the cheapo re-issue of the 1-4 box are in jewel cases. The first release of the box with gold CDs had cardboard sleeves (not digipaks).

Got an email from Amazon UK this morning saying the release date for both volumes has been brought forward to August 18th. Took me by surprise, thought they'd gone back again...

Amazon US still has 9/8 as the release date.

Music Direct also has the 18 August as the release date. Is this the first time ever that a Neil Young release has been brought forward?

I got an email from Badlands, just now, also saying August 18.

"NEIL YOUNG Original Release Series Discs 5-8
Features a slipcase with 4 albums on CD presented in board sleeves"

    What is a "board sleeve"?

Probably the LP-replica, non-jewel cases as seen in Official Release Series Discs 1-4. What I'm still wondering is if these will be HDCD discs, as is my 1-4 set...

The price of these is still way high IMHO and if I could be sure they'd be out as a budget version like 1-4 I would hang on. Saw the first budget box only today in HMV for £12.99. As I only have the jewel case versions of the first four getting the same format for the new two volumes wouldn't bother me. But hey, this is Neil's world so nothings predictable.

If the "board" releases are anything like how Decade is, I will be putting the remastered CD's in the old issue cases. The Decade remaster may be the worst packaging I have ever seen.

Well lets hope they are not like those in the early Archives CD boxes. In my first copy the CDs were stuck in and had glue on them. TBH, there are few card sleeves that are a success aside from Japanese releases. I wish everyone else would go back to jewel cases. The carbon footprint argument about CD cases doesn't stack up now with me either now that vinyl is back.

smaller than normal CD size digipak
discs can slip out of it if on a slanted shelf
22 page booklet shrunk down to 4 pages, with type so small its is basically unreadable

just a terrible re-issue. i also put the discs in the old jewel cases with the original booklet.

I haven't even bought Decade as the reports of the packaging were so poor. Just hope I am not paying a fortune for these two box sets and they use the same format.

Even though we are supposedly sixteen days from these releases (according to Amazon UK) they are not listed on the official Neil Young store. I still wont believe it till I hold em in my hands.

I'll buy these boxes when they hit £12.99. That's a decent price!
