I think Neil Young must have a bet with Steven Wilson about how many albums he can release in a year.

I love that Neil just keeps doing whatever the hell he wants.

I may or may not want to join him on every whim... but I sure as hell support his right to do things his way. Damn the naysayers. Long live Neil. Do it for yourself... not for the public adoration.

Amen to that - what an astounding piece of work that album (and film) is.

Neil is all about expectations to me. I lower them for his current or new releases. That way I'm never really disappointed. Monsanto Years, Peace Trail and The Visitor while very enjoyable , were exactly the albums I thought they would be. The Archive releases are another story. I expect them to be top notch Neil. The Hitchhiker was brilliant and I expect Roxy, Tonight's the Night Live to be outstanding as well. Whatever Neil decides to release, it's a first day purchase for me.

I have a similar attitude. I try to not even think about it too much and place too many expectations---it's just music.

If I don't like his new lp too much, no bother he'll likely release something else in the following year. I was totally into chrome dreams 2, living with war, storytone and earth for months!!!!

If you cherry-pick the best songs from Monsanto Years, Peace Trail and The Visitor and make one release out of it, you just might have a Neil album that would stand with his classics. Neil could use an editor, I've said it before and I'll say it again. David Briggs was Neil's Quality Control guy. Once he passed away, other than Ben Keith, who also left us, there was no one left for Neil to trust except himself.

Poncho has carried the Brigg's torch more than anybody, and he's still with us.

I'd suggest he's Neil's most significant and influential sideman, and it's a shame he hasn't featured on more albums recently.

Neil takes advice from Poncho? Never got that impression, at all. Maybe he should though.

I have zero interest in seeing this movie but I will be buying the soundtrack CD as soon as possible. Can't get enough NY tunes in my life.

I think it’s good there’s a Lucas sung track on the album. I loved the Crazy Horse album Crazy Moon where Neil is just playing the lead guitar role

Yet another overpaid hipster trying to impress his friends with an edgy, hate-filled review of a movie that likely went WAY over his head.
And yes, when I watch it on Netflix next week, I will make a public apology if it is truly a terrible film.

i have been saying this about neil young and paul mccartney for years....make one great album out of every 3 mediocre ones.

both of them need a lesson in quality over quantity

Definitely one of Neil's most influential sidemen. Being influential doesn't necessarily equate to "giving advice". When Poncho is there, Neil plays better and writes better. He pushes Neil for greatness and isn't in awe of him.

And like Briggs, he's not afraid of saying what he thinks, which instantly elevates him above just about anyone else.

Ben Keith is way more the "most influential sideman".

I have little interest in getting into a bidding war over it. Ben Keith was a fantastic musician with a uniquely beautiful steel guitar sound.

And as Niko Bolas said: "You can't make a Neil Young record without Poncho. He is the glue....without him it falls apart".

I tend to agree. He was a crucial part of the chemistry not just of Crazy Horse, but also the Lost Dogs, the Bluenotes, the 2002 MGs. He consistently contributes that rock "n" roll edge (both in sound and spirit) that is so crucial to the Neil Young magic.

So you are allowed to decide if it is a "terrible film", but he isn't?
