I've noticed the OOP CDs as well, and that has me quite pumped. Why shouldn't they be there? There is no more manufacturing cost, all the label, PONO and Omnifone need to do is put the files on the server. This sort of thing is long overdue. No CD should be "OOP". Hats off to PONO folks for this 1 thing alone.

What's out of print that the pono store has?

I think those who criticize , it's about all the actual music not being high Rez and not the quality of the player.

  4. In a recent interview with Neil (not the Howard Stern interview) he was asked if Pono Music will have some sort of rules on what masters they will accept when putting music up on the site... rules on the amount of compression that can be applied, the source of the master and the minimum bit size and sample rate that a master must have (similar to the Mastered For iTunes rules and guidelines). Neil replied, "No, we will take anything". This worried me as it meant that any old master will do, a master that may be compressed to high heaven, or a master from a source that is three or four generations away from the original master tapes. IMO, Pono Music needs rules like these in order for them to deliver what they've said they're going to deliver.

Unfortunately, I don't have a link to this interview, but if I find it I'll post it.

2 CTI releases by Freddie Hubbard: Skydive and Keep Your Soul Together. You can now get Keep Your Soul Together as part a BGO 3-fer that includes Keep Your Soul Together/Polar AC/Skagly, but if all you want is Keep Your Soul Together, you can get just that. Oh, isn't the Complete On the Corner Sessions by Miles Davis OOP? That's available as well.

Cool thanks Charles, I was just curious, it may come in handy when sourcing the old mastered cd's when prices are moon high for physical editions

    I hope it goes well.

We will see - and it's Charles Hansen. A number of web reviews have spelled his name incorrectly.

This graphic spells it all out:

It's all about getting lots of content, in this case, primarily from a 3rd party source.

My guess is that phenomenon will not be going away any time soon.

I'm curious about how HDCD releases will be presented in the pono store.
24bit hdcd decoded? Or 16bit undecoded (and dynamically compromised)?
Suspect it will be the latter initially at least.

How about 80% OOP catalog of Van Morrison? Are they on Pono?

I see ZERO information on what format these files are. MP3, 24/192, doesn't matter?

    ???

I think that is all forthcoming.

And I cannot even IMAGINE they are going to be MP3.

I can't get anything to come up in the music store. I wonder if there is a browser compatibility issue.

Maybe - it had been very hit/miss for me and I chalked it up to being beta.

  25. For what it's worth, it works with my first-gen iPad, assuming that the tracks don't actually play. (Or do they?)
