I think I read that the vinyl is due tomorrow (Tuesday 06/13/2016). It may have been on their Facebook page.

  2. Thanks but aren't Fridays release days?

Just received my LP today. Only one listen so far, but the quality of the performances, songs and the vinyl itself are top notch. Really enjoying it!

Yes, but I seem to recall they mentioned it's a special Tuesday release. Maybe I just imagined it!

  5. You are correct. I looked it up. It comes out Tuesday the CD on Friday. Interesting.

This album is nice! Streamed it on NPR.

I didn't even realize til last week that Tucker Martine and Laura Veirs were a couple...and they have 2 adorable kids.

  7. Darn. Waiting on the T-shirt/CD bundle.

I got the mp3 version in a mail link overnight, and it reminded me of what Greg Calbi said in a recent radio interview.

He was discussing loudness and mentioned that over the last few years that the digital compression algorithms had gotten better, so that an engineer could make a song sound louder, but in a way, not as fatiguing on the ears...

I looked at the wav forms and they looked pretty compressed, but the audio doesn't sound so bad. But I hope the vinyl is better.

Here's the DR results, when the mp3s are decoded to wav and analyzed:

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Analyzed folder: Case Lang Veirs
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    DR Peak RMS Filename
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    DR9 over -10.36 dB 01 Atomic Number.wav
    DR8 over -9.14 dB 02 Honey And Smoke.wav
    DR8 over -10.33 dB 03 Song For Judee.wav
    DR6 over -10.17 dB 04 Blue Fires.wav
    DR6 over -7.76 dB 05 Delirium.wav
    DR9 over -10.54 dB 06 Greens of June.wav
    DR9 over -12.81 dB 07 Behind The Armory.wav
    DR7 over -8.53 dB 08 Best Kept Secret.wav
    DR10 over -10.82 dB 09 1000 Miles Away.wav
    DR8 over -10.24 dB 10 Supermoon.wav
    DR7 over -9.26 dB 11 I Want To Be Here.wav
    DR8 over -10.20 dB 12 Down.wav
    DR8 over -11.32 dB 13 Why Do We Fight.wav
    DR6 over -8.76 dB 14 Georgia Stars.wav

    Official DR value: DR8

Also, almost all the tracks have multiple instances of clipping. I don't see how major releases can ship with apparent clipping, much less on nearly every track.

My EU black vinyl arrived today. It's a great album and sounded fine to my ears, YMMV. Flat and clean with no pops and clicks!

Given I like this and am already a fan of Case and Veirs' own work, where should I start with k.d. lang?

The Recollection comp (2010) is a nice overview.
I also like A Wonderful World (with Tony Bennett) (2002) and most of all, Ingenue (1992).
Not sure if any of the above are available on vinyl at this time.

I found the CD at Barnes & Noble today and it sounds very good in the car, for what that's worth.

One listen in, my clear favorites are "Best Kept Secret" and "Georgia Stars." Others that caught my ear were "1,000 Miles Away", "I Want To Be Here", and "Greens of June."

In general, I like the stuff that sounds least like Neko solo. Some of her songs are really good, but I generally buy her CDs out of respect for her work in The New Pornographers.

Shields & Yarnell, I mean Barnes & Noble has an exclusive translucent royal blue vinyl pressing for sale. I just got it in the mail.

Meanwhile, I do have tickets for their show at Boarding House Park in Lowell, MA on July 23rd.

I don't know. The card doesn't indicate. When I do it, I'll let you know.

A few of the DJs on the public radio station here, WDET, are all ga-ga over this album. It sounds pleasant, but not overly innovative or much different from what the ladies have done solo beforehand. But at least they haven't succumbed to the Album Of Standards Covered Boringly just yet....

My cd arrived on Saturday and I gave it the first run through then - I enjoyed it a lot, I think the girls work pretty well together. Of course I'll need a few more listens to know it better but the first impression was pretty positive.

Still disappointed their tour isn't coming through here but a a consolation prize this morning I scored some 5th row center seats for Neko's September show at the wonderful Santa Fe Opera venue.

I just got a blue vinyl copy from Barnes n Noble. It sounds great. Very good pressing. With a 20% off coupon, I paid about $17 for it with a download card.

I checked the first 4 tracks on my flac download and no clipping, may just be your conversion or the mp3 files. I'm curious why you converted the mp3 to wav before using the DR tool, and what did you use to check for clipping?
