Shouldn't it just be titled BoLLockS now seeing there's a similar Nirvana album ?

    No ?

That is the weirdest thing ever. Sonically - for a rough demo recording, it just seems like it has a bit too much clarity to it (aside from the vocal) for it be a vintage mix off an old quarter inch reel to me, and I find it hard to believe they would have recorded the vocals like that so that's all they had to work with. Why go to the trouble to record it so it sounds like that? If it was a vintage mix, and the reverb was added during mixdown, would they really have multiple mixes with none of them have a workable vocals? They weren't shy - so why hide the lyrics? Odd.

I wonder whether Lydon is either embarrased by the lyrics, or there's some issue with songwriting credits and making the words basically inauible was a way round that whilst still releasing something?

It was all about the money in '77 too. That was the whole idea behind the "swindle". A bunch of misfits/outcasts being able to make a living off being a bunch of misfits/outcasts.

My guess? The vocals are a contemporary recording and they have been treated to help disguise that. The rest of it is probably contemporary as well, but guitars and drums don't age like voices do.

Yeah, something is very fishy. The tape box listed like 8 mixes. Who the F would do 8 mixes of this with the vocal like that?

    I'm a bit like jimod992.

I am fascinated about this record, I have 34 LPs of it, from all over the world and from the original Barclay edition from October '77 to some modern 180g remasters. I also have some 10 CDs, cassettes, DVD, CD long box and I'm probably missing something.

I bought the 35th anniversary in all its formats, double LP, double CD, single CD and the 3 CDs 1 DVD 1 book box set.

I am pretty sure I'll have this 40th anniversary edition somewhere on the road.

    Universal loves me.

A great album, hugely influential, I give the nod to Ramones first as most influential punk album, but this was right behind it.

But... I only have the cd from the first run. Don't see the need for any other versions.

If you prefer CDs, you should at least try the remastered version made by Tim Young with original producer Chris Thomas in 2012. Every Universal release from then on uses this remaster. Also be aware that the UK Virgin "first run" is different from the USA Warner "first run" CDs, and the US version is far superior.

If you also like vinyl, I would recommend you to get at least a copy of the 1977 British edition with blue labels, it is great and you can find it in very good condition with decent prices. And, maybe, a version with the 2012 remasters (also any Universal release from 2012 on would be the same).

Based on what I had heard, I thought this WAS the 2012 set, in scaled down (and thus more affordable) packaging. But I hadn't heard anything definitive.
