You could donate your DVD player to the British Heart Foundation . Is it just me or have people got money to burn on this forum?

There are a lot of members here, and like any group, come from all economic strata.

I thought Metralla's comment was very reasonable and non-confrontational.

You're right, I was kidding, and saw no reason for @The Good Guy's response.

Wow. I thought you could criticize me for stating the bleeding obvious, but why has such a simple statement so offended you?

Not to change the subject but ...

Anybody know what the non-signature (basic) AN AX-2 standmount speakers are going for now in US$?

I can understand why you say that but I have had the opportunity to hear three different speaker systems that were over $100k in the last three years. It almost has reached the point where $25K is reasonable!

Interestingly, I am not a huge fan of the high priced stuff that I have heard. I preferred the Proac D40Rs that I used to own. More coherent and I didn't have to stand 20 feet away from the speakers to get them to gel. From my experience, I suspect that I would enjoy the ANs more.

If anyone should be offended, it would be the Audio Note UK owners, like myself, who certain people have been suggesting, are seduced by the high price--i.e., that their gear are "Veblen Goods" aimed at snobs whose demand for the product increases with the price/exclusivity. I hardly think Audio Not gear qualifies--their stuff is often pretty ugly or plain looking and has would hardly impress anyone except where performance is considered. Yes, with Audio Note gear, as one moves toward the higher end of their line for each type of component, the price becomes very steep for relatively small increments of improvement, but, their lines are pretty extensive and the buyer has many options for the stopping point (where one's own perception of the value of the increment of improvement does not justify the expense).

Technically he "spat the dummy" or had a "dummy spit" ......

    Spit the Dummy

Australian Term: To indulge in a sudden display of anger or frustration; to lose one’s temper. The phrase is usually used of an adult, and the implication is that the outburst is childish, like a baby spitting out its dummy in a tantrum and refusing to be pacified. (a dummy is a pacifier).

Now we'll return to our normal programming .......

Steve - if you have to carry a Jinro up or down stairs, I have an important safety tip:
Keep the transformer end inward toward you. Doing it the other way 'round demonstrates Leverage n a big way and then leads quickly to tears and a trip to the ER.
Don't ask me how I know.

(Yes, rather obvious, but if I can help one person avoid disaster, I'll play Captain Obvious.)

Thanks, David. Carrying the Jinro or the Ginrei is a two person job around here....

    Very sensible.

I love listening to the Jinro, (currently the Jinro Shochu fully balanced power amp version), but, boy, as a one man band, I HATE traveling with it.
