Doubt it. I asked him about it a while back and he said there was an insurmountable disagreement with the labels.

If Ponomusic is just $3-4 cheaper, they will get my business.

    Disappointing.

One could argue Chad Kassem used his leverage as a hardware vendor, and a Sony dealer at that, to lock out the competition.

A gentlemanly acknowledgement, wink and nod, between HDT, AS & Ponomusic to keep pricing high around the $17-18 levels for 24/96 pcm flac?

No, I don't think so. I think the labels are charging too much for the rights to the product. They know the only folks still buying music are older and are paying for back catalog stuff....hence 25 dollar 192 downloads.

And they are asking high prices for new releases also.

Those are selling in stupid low numbers. And they have to maintain price consistency. But with the 15% coupons it is not too bad occasionally.

  12. The labels are definitely keeping Hi-Rez licensing costs in the stratosphere. I presume it is so these downloads don't compete with MP3 offerings from places like iTunes and Amazon.

Good call...I did not think of that.

I can't argue the licensing costs because I have no idea what they are, but really, you think the reason is competition with iTunes?
Up to now, iTunes has had no competition for market share and likely never will unless some dramatic technological change takes place.
The reason, imo, is that the people who pay the fees can afford to pay the fees.
Those who can't, like HDTracks for DSD, don't.
    At least not now.

I would very much like to buy the Average White Band - s/t 24/192 download but Acoustic Sound won't allow downloads from Sweden. Is there somebody who know if this is available from another commercial download site?

  16. Aren't there ways around that by spoofing your IP address?

Ah, but with MP3s you are just getting 5% of the music. By that measure, current high-rez pricing is an enormous value.

Actually Neil Young claims CDs give you 5% of the music.

Wow, that's a big announcement! Anyone try it yet? All new? Any relation to the recent remasters? Or is it from the HDAD release?

It says on their site: "DSD file created by Gus Skinas from the original Sony Super Audio CD cutting masters "

Super Audio CD master? I wonder...is that from an old/cancelled release or a prelude to a future SACD release?

    Good point.

IIRC I Robot was never released on SACD. Hmmmmm.
