I can't as they are from different albums - that's like putting rubber soul tracks after tracks from revolver on a compilation. As for the 1990s tracks I don't know... on the 1970-2002 greatest hits they put 'Kiss the bride' after the 'Made in England' tracks.... talk about a screw up
Island Girl? Might have been a hit, but no one plays that anymore - even Elton. And enough with the Lion King stuff. My God, they've been on every compilation. Wonder if there'll be a vinyl release of these. With digital downloads, what's the point though, really? This is for casual fans, and casual fans are buying CDs less and less.
I've actually heard Island Girl on a local 70's/80's Oldies station in the rotation, believe it or not.
I've heard it, too - but I've also heard Who Wears These Shoes too recently - it just doesn't seem like a mass appeal song like the others. Surprised nothing from The One, though.
Me too, the Jersey Shore station plays it all the time. Philly classic rock station WMGK plays every Elton song from 1970-1976 except: Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds Island Girl Grow Some Funk Of Your Own/I Feel Like A Bullet In The Gun Of Robert Ford Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word Bite Your Lip(Get Up and Dance) Don't Go Breaking My Heart. Pinball Wizard
I can understand the former because it's more pop than rock, but there's no excuse not to play the latter.
Presumably it's something incredibly special on the third CD, since it bumps the price up from around 15 euros to around 55. Who am I kidding. It's going to be a poxy Blu-ray of videos.
There's an image of the box set up on UK Amazon now, but no more information just yet. The book looks nice, with pictures of the actual single releases. You never know, there might be some room for b-sides on the 3rd CD.
Right - here's the info on the box set. The third CD is 'personally curated' by Elton apparently. Unfortunately it seems he plumped for a bunch of singles that didn't make the cut for the best-of album itself. What about something along the lines of the Rolling Stone 'My life in 20 songs' article? Anyway, moving on...
Here the 3rd cd track listing to save you jumping over to that page 1 Skyline Pigeon (Piano Version) 2 Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds 3 Pinball Wizard 4 Mama Can't Buy You Love 5 Part-Time Love 6 Victim of Love 7 Empty Garden (Hey Hey Johnny) 8 Kiss The Bride 9 That's What Friends Are For [Dionne Warwick with Elton John, Gladys Knight and Stevie Wonder] 10 The One 11 True Love [Elton John and Kiki Dee] 12 Believe 13 Live Like Horses [Elton John and Pavarotti] 14 Written In The Stars [Elton John and LeAnn Rimes] 15 This Train Don't Stop There Anymore 16 Good Morning To The Night (Elton vs PNAU) 17 Step Into Christmas
What an odd compilation. Who is this supposed to appeal to? If you're an Elton fan you already have all this stuff. If you're a casual Elton fan you aren't going to want to spend the money on this bloated set when you can just get the two-disc Greatest Hits set or the 70's Greatest Hits album.
The disappointment was heavy, so I made up my own 'curated compilation'. All of them 'non-diamonds'. I think it would spread over 3CDs quite nicely. One song from each studio album, plus seven songs that didn't come out on an album. I'll be drowning my sorrows with this (google play music playlist link). Conquer the Sun is meant to be on there as well (it is on my version).
Yes, for me and no doubt many others, it's a pointless release. What a waste of all those 'teasers'! I suppose he was due for a new comp, and I'm sure it'll do OK... Still a drag, though.
