Before you comment on the small tracklisting, here's what Dave has to say about it:

"It's an eight-song album," Grohl says. "But it's gonna be our longest album – because there are some epic jams. When you get Joe Walsh with you out in the desert" – referring to a session with the Eagles guitarist at a studio in Joshua Tree, California – "it's not going to be a three-minute pop single. It gets a little weird."

Only 8 songs. Either those are long-ass songs or this is a short-ass album. Or an EP.

ETA: I see the above quote. I guess the answer is "long-ass songs."

I was going to post about it earlier, but was too lazy. So thanks for that!
I pre-ordered it on vinyl from the website.. They're offering a limited first-run only edition of the vinyl. There are 9 different covers to choose from!
    I chose the Chicago cover..

Jep, officially pressed at Pallas, which is awesome.

Length is 44 minutes acording to the press release. So not their longest record but not bad.

Anybody considering to buy every single cover version?

The idea did cross my mind. Would be cool to have them all and place them together. But I don't have $200 to spend on a single album lol

They made a big stink about Wasting Light being all old school, but they jacked it too much imo, rendering AAA worthless. We'll see what they do this time....

I hope this isn't one of those multi artist collaboration records where each song has a different guest ala Santana. That HBO preview makes it seem so. Please God no...

I can't be the only one with low expectations. Especially if no songs were written prior to visiting each city.

And someone please tell Grohl he's not a documentarian.

Saw an extended trailer for the series on HBO and I was impressed with what I heard. I think the foos have done it all and probably were aware that they have been making the same record for a while so they are trying something new this time around. Hey, at least they are trying!

It will most likely be brickwalled but all of their records on CD sound loud. Wasting light mp3 download that came with the vinyl was really nice and not brickewalled at all though.

Was it a needledrop or just a better mastered version from tape?

And it was actually AAD at the end of the day. The lp sounded ok but nothing great.

Needledrop for sure. If you listen closely to the first track, you can literally hear the needle drop.

Well... the track I heard didnt feature anyone on vocals besides Dave and sounded very much like a foo song. The trailer also says something about recording "instrumentals" at each location. It's possible that the base of the songs were tracked at each studio but some overdubbing and re-recording may have happened down the line. Total speculation on my part.

The difference is Carlos is a guitarist while Dave is a singer (and a guitarist). And getting guys like Joe Walsh isn't going to get all the kiddies to buy your music. And as he mentioned these are short pop songs. They're long jams. I'm sure whoever guests on them will be appropriate for that type of music.

I'm going to keep an open mind, but I normally hate guest artists on anything... (except cute little hottie on Petty's stuff - what's her name - you know , the one that twirls... - Stevie Nicks! that's it.. .
