Clay - Can't comment on the 65B specifically, but historically it's been hard to go wrong with a Mac tuner.

Thanks - That's what I was thinking. Any comment on a tube tuner vs. a non tube one? or vintage vs. new.

The Pioneer SX9100 sounds pretty good.

    Hi Clay,

Lotsa questions = lotsa Jeffrey opinions! :D

IMO, a tube tuner is definitely the way to go. I scored a 66 instead of a 65B, 67, or 71. Me thinks they all rock but i wanted AM/FM so the decision was made. The 66 produces the best AM i've ever heard. The 10B may be the greatest tuner ever made but the previously listed Mac's ain't that bad at all! :)

From a value perspective, the McIntosh tuners are a far greater value than the preamps or amps from the standpoint that they usually sell for only 1 or 2 times what they originally sold for in the 60's while the same period amps & preamps can fetch 5 to 10 times their original price. This may be because there aren't a lot of radio listeners these daze and the tuners are the most fragile of the three components.

Some people like to mix & match but i kinda dig having a 60's vintage McIntosh tuner, preamp(s), and amp. There certainly aren't any compatability issues. ;)

Agreed, but I still believe in careful cable selection. Some cables do have the power to screw up a good system.

Still waiting for the Grovers. Its been over a week since it was shipped now.
