    Strummer's final album hitting stores
LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Joe Strummer and The Mescaleros' final album, "Streetcore," will be released Oct. 21 and will include eight original tracks, plus a cover of Bob Marley's "Redemption Song."

Strummer, a snarling punk icon and former singer-songwriter for The Clash, died Dec. 22 of a heart attack. He was 50.

The album will also include a cover of "Before I Grow Too Old" by Bobby Charles, re-titled "Silver and Gold." A video has already been shot for the track "Coma Girl."

Strummer even had a hand in the album cover because he had made elaborate notes and drawings several weeks before he died.

In the late 1990s he formed The Mescaleros, releasing the well-received albums "Rock Art & The X-Ray Style" and "Global A Go-Go." The sound is earthy and global in comparison to his Clash days.

Strummer and the band finished their last tour in November.

Strummer's post-Clash solo work also included solo album "Earthquake Weather" in 1989.

His influence far exceeded his record sales. U2 singer Bono called The Clash "the greatest rock band. They wrote the rule book for U2."

The Clash was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in March. The band emerged from the 1970s London punk explosion that produced the Sex Pistols, The Damned, The Stranglers, and Siouxsie and the Banshees.
